“Warm, friendly service on a busy Friday evening”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

Firstly, love the new decor, especially the booths, much more private and comfy! We where seated in the garden at first, but was too cold for us, so Magda the manager very kindly sorted a booth for us in the restaurant which was great, and was no mean feat on a busy Friday night. Our waitress (Lydia , I think) was very warm, friendly, professional, nothing was to much trouble for this lovely lady, she made us feel very much at home, everything from the drinks to the orders being taken was quickly and effecient, we where told as soon as we where seated what wasn't available from the menu, which was just one dish, which none of us wanted anyway, all good. We enjoyed our platter starter of different meats, warm bread, olives and dips, very nice, our drinks where served at just the right temperature,(ie the beer was ice cold) . Our main meals where hot, tasty and plentiful, apart from the roast chicken that was very dry, not so good, the mussels a frites where excellent as where the cafe rouge burger. What topped it for us other than the great service was the 25% off code we had, so we basically had one of the meals for free, we need more of this from restaurants in these financially hard times. Well done Cafe Rouge!

“Warm eggs and bacon”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

Not sure about the new decor and the service and cooking seem to have slipped since our last few visits. Our eggs and bacon were tepid, edible but must have Ben left standing after cooking. There are plenty of other replaces in Loughton so we will try a different one next week.

“Not improved”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2013

Visited again after new renovation (strange choice of decor, much better French bistro feel before) and have to report that service is as dire as ever, if not worse. Some dishes unavailable as well as a branded beer (but these weren't mentioned until we tried to order!) Service was painfully slow and only diners at three other tables (Monday evening) with three waiting staff 'working'. Wine ordered was only served half-way through mains and even then after two reminders. Steak was inedible (got a free coffee to compensate - great!) One of the desserts was never brought to the table. Will never, absolutely never return. Why doesn't someone at Head Office read these reviews and sort out?

“Nice Little Bistro”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

We went here with family my granddaughter was in a show at the Lopping Hall just a few doors away so this seemed a good place to have an early meal before the show. We all had starter's and main's plus drinks. There is a set menu but we didn't have this. I had french onion soup and sirloin steak, plus 2 large glasses of wine. My husband had chicken liver pate and steak plus 2 glasses of coke (he was driving) My step son had garlic bread and dips plus steak plus coke. My grand son had garlic bread and chicken baguette with salad plus 2 glasses of coke, so did my step daughter along with a glass of coke and a large glass of rose wine.. The service was a bit of the slow side we were offered desserts but because of the time factor had to decline. The food was good though and we said we would go back. The bill came to around £133.00 for 5 of us.

“Much better now it has been renovated”

I ate here for breakfast. The venue is much fresher and the menu has been changed, with a wide range of new snacks and dishes. The service was friendly and prompt. On the whole, a very pleasant breakfast.
