“You gotta really be interested in wine history...”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

Big museum, lots of ancient wine history here. Unfortunately everything is written in Spanish so be sure to reserve an English tour if you don't speak the language.
The gift shop is overpriced. The wines are ok. The land is beautiful around the museum, be sure to leave time for walking the vineyards.

“A fabulous museum!”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

Assuming you're at all interested in wine, this is unmissable. Must have a good claim to be the best wine museum in the world. Brilliantly laid out, superb visuals - we went to it without great expectations and found it riveting. There's an awful lot to see so allow loads of time - maybe have a meal there (we didn't). We also missed out on the garden which has examples of all the main grape varieties. We're certainly going to go back. An unexpected highlight of our holiday!

“Bodega Tour”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

The person who did the tour was very good and helpful, however, there were too many people on the tour and it did overlap onto another tour so sometime sit was difficult to hear.

it was not a bad tour but not the best I have done, the Ramon y Bilbao was more intimate and Muga offers a view of a more natural bodega.

“What about retsina?”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Vivanco's wine museum is probably the most complete on this planet, except... there's nothing about the typical Greek resin-flavoured wine, the famous "retsina". When I first visited this museum (this year's visit was the third), I asked the guide about it, and she had never heard of it. Would certainly pass the enquiry... nothing came of it, but if you don't feel like if this small part of wine history were of the utmost importance, you'll certainly enjoy the visit! Back then they also offered a glass of wine after the visit, included in the ticket, but visibly the crisis has come along there as well... Every aspect of wine is present, from gigantic old wine presses to a hands-on display where you can try to distinguish the different scent samples that can occur in wine. This is a museum to visit at ease, trying not to get overwhelmed by the vast amount of information. The environment is quite charming as well... after all, it's La Rioja...
