This pension at Lake Bafa is well run and has a lovely garden and eating areas. The food was home cooked and very good although plain. The breakfast was truly excellent. Our rooms had some charm, although they were small and the bathrooms were clean and modern. Oddly though Lake Bafa was pretty much deserted when we were there( August) and the local village is a shambles. Personally I wouldn't go out of my way to visit Lake Bafa unless I had some specific reason to do so.

My husband and I stayed at Angora Pensyon for 2 nights and loved it. The family run pensyon was relaxing and well set out. Opti (pronounced Optie) was very helpful and a great guide and full of information. We spent the first day wandering about ourselves. The second day we left early with Opti for a walk to the monestory etc which is definitely worth it then a boat and picnic on the lake all in all a great day and one that will be in my memories of Turkey. We were in a back room delightfully decorated however we did have a donkey (village full of them) outside our window who was on guard duty during the night minding the chickens from the cats I think, so we heard the eeaawws 2-3 times however we went straight back off to sleep. Breakfast included tea and coffee making facilities self serve available 24 hrs. We as most of the guests ate our evening meals at the hotel also and were fed well.

Room Tip: Beware of scorpions when walking in the hills, wear closed in shoes and do not rest against the rock walls. Common sense as with bush walking everywhere in the world. Leave by 9 am to prevent walking in the heat. The lake is brilliant to swim in at the secluded beaches on the boating picnic.

We have been driving up through Western Turkey, staying one night in each location. We arrived at the Agora a little early on a hot day in May, but were made very welcome by the owner, shown to our room, and given a delicious home-cooked lunch. There is a shady terrace with a couple of hammocks, where we spent the heat of the afternoon, before exploring the ruins of ancient Herakleia by beautiful Lake Bafa, the purpose of our visit. (The owner of Agora has a number of books about the ruins.) Home made food for the evening meal; no choice, but we were not expecting any. Room clean, large bathroom with modern shower, air conditioning worked; bedroom a bit tatty (but at this price, who cares - and after all it is a pansiyon, not a hotel). Our double bed was actually a pair of beds pushed together. Be aware that very little English is spoken, but reasonable German. If we came this way again,we would certainly stay here, and make it our base to visit other sites in the area.

Lake Bafa and Mount Latmus (Besparmak Dagi) are among the few regions of Turkey which have not fallen prey to the onslaught of cement and bad development. Our choice to spend two nights in this establishment, however, proved quite unfortunate, since we ended up paying an insanely expensive sum for rooms which were small and devoid of any character. The establishment's website is quite deceiving, since the photographs do not correspond to the situation one finds on the ground. The only fond memory of Agora is the good restaurant, with simple but tasty food ,ade from organic ingredients sourced locally. However, the hotel's guide (who is from Istanbul and claims to have studied archaeology there) proved to be quite ignorant regarding the Byzantine monasteries we wanted to trek to on the mountain (as to the practicalities of reaching them, their history etc), and we found the prices he charged much beyond unreasonable! Naturally, we preferred to use local people who knew the mountain passes much better and charged us a fraction of the price, giving us an excellent service. I found the fact that the hotel owner interrogated our driver about our choice to have our trips organised by other people pushy, noisy and tasteless. I would not recommend to anybody to stay in Agora Pansiyon, frankly. On the third night of our 4-day tour of the region, we moved to a far better family pansion, Latmia, also in Kapikiri, which was unpretentious and good value for money; its restaurant was also very good. As I understand, the only thing Agora can market in Kapikiri is the good knowledge of German by its guide, which attracts a significant German-speaking crowd. However, even if you do not speak any Turkish, you will always find locals who speak a bit of English or German, and paying such a heavy premium for so little service at Agora is simply not worth it. Stay and trek with the locals....

Had a marvellous 2 nights here. The surroundings in terms of the lake, the rock formations, and the ancient ruins are quite stunning. Nothing is too much trouble for Mithat.

The local food is all totally ecological, and incredibly tasted, as well as excellently presented. Breakfast will certainly set you up for the whole day.

Room Tip: There are many different rooms, some located round the hotel, and some a short distance away. If you are away from hotel, then there is no wi-fi, and bring a torch - street lighting is somehat lacking. My room was one of the huts in the ground, and I was delighted with it - excellently fitted out and very comfortable.
