“Mostly ups, some downs”

The island actually looks like that crap they shovel you in travel agents, beauty. There is a beastly trek through the jungle to long beach which is worth it for a visit and more so for sun set.

Accommodation was pretty standard, white rose was my favourite, the three kittens living there may make me bias but the food was also good and the staff were friendly. There were a few bugs in all the places I stayed but your in South East Asia. There are bugs. Don't be snobby this is what you signed up.

The title for best food goes to island boys BBQ man sized portions with plenty of choice. Highly satisfying but is more expensice that some of the other BBQs on the island such as Bamboo which is also rather good. They all take a while to cook, it is a BBQ after all, you can have it done fast or you can have it done right!

The Brownies are horrendously strong which is not at all a bad thing, but don't plan anything for the rest of your day!

Buy coconut oil, the sand flies are savage which show no mercy.

At 2 am when the power turns off is when the magic happens.. So don't forget to look up and pray you have a clear sky or jump into the ocean and be amazed by the plankton. And I mean jump in, you aren't a toddler, splashing your feet in the water doesn't cut it. It's worth getting wet.

In addition there are also puppies and kittens always running around where ever you go so take advantage and physically terrorise them with hugs and strokes they will refuse to accept as their parents could not care less.

Snorkeling is nothing spectacular here but always a bit of fun. If you take a kayak out for the day you can chug over to the only island which isn't a lord of the rings like distance away and have a nice day there, a standard small temple in the middle but a grand view.

I visited during low season, not to many people so everything was really relaxed. There's a little bit of adventure to be had and cannot speak for the party but during low season its perfect for just getting away.

“Majestic”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

I can only speak for the Palm Beach side of things but Koh Rong is one of the most naturally beautiful places I have ever been. The sunset was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, the glowing plankton were magical and every beach, including the one requiring a hike to reach, was stunning. We'd been worried by some people saying it wasn't worth it. They couldn't have been more wrong. For many, Koh Rong was the highlight of the trip and I would recommend it heavily.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

Perhaps we stayed in the wrong place but beach and snorkelling not good. Too many dangerous spiky sea anemones to have carefree swimming and visibility very bad.

The beach is OK. Nothing so spectacular. But the shoreline where restaurants & guest houses are is filthy & filled with flies & rats.

“Beautiful! BUY COCONUT OIL!!!”
Reviewed June 7, 2014 via mobile

Arrived here from the mainland, took 1 hour and paid $14 open return ticket.
The island itself is absolutely stunning.
The main beach is gorgeous, the sea is crystal clear and if you dare venture at around 3am and swim in the sea you will sea the golden glittering plankton.
Many small restaurants to eat all, the main one is coco which provides cocktail 2 for 1 and lovely food.
You can get afternoon torus which take you snorkelling, fishing, eating the fish from a BBQ on long beach and seeing the sun set there too.
BUY COCONUT OIL and buy it before you get to the island! Sand flies are the only major downside to this paradise! The 'coconut oil' they sell on the island is fake and is actually vegetable oil but they charge you around $5!
Do not jungle trek on your own!
Can't tell you how beautiful the ocean is! Clearest I've ever seen.. Enjoy!
