Monkey Island

This island is absolute heaven! If you are in Sihanoukville, do not miss it!

I really liked this hotel, a few people are saying its overpriced but if you have3 people in a room it works out really cheap. The rooms are just wooden shacks, clean and cosy enough, on the beach front, with hammocks and electricity from 5pm till midnight and that's the whole charm of the island! I could have stayed there for a long time!

The bathrooms are shared and not the cleanest but what do you expect from a wooden shack on the beach!

The bar is fab, great music and food. The staff are really lovely and helpful...

I will definitely be returning to monkey island!!

There is few possibilities to sleep on Koh Rong and Mongkey Island seems to be a good place to stay. There are nice bungalows on the beach, you fall a sleep listening to the waves and tokay :-)
Bungalows are confortable even if you will not find the confort of an hotel but you are on a paradise island, it's look like robinson crusoée (for the time being).
Closer to the bungalows, you will find the Monkey restaurant, which is a good address for breakfast and diner with always good music.

Room Tip: Try to book a bungalow on the beach

monkey island only has 4 huts but the view is excellent as it is right by the beach.

really basic with no fan, no water heater, no a/c and no flush for toilet. bring your own lock for the cabinets as there is no safe place to store your valuables. it takes ages for food to arrive so be prepared to wait at least 30mins and they often forget your orders as well and more often than not, blame you for not ordering properly when your order did not arrive.

At $25 for a basic bungalow with shared bathroom I think this place is overpriced. The staff like to blast the music into the early hours which does spoil to atmosphere. The food is good but dont be in a hurry to get it. Overall I think it is over rated and you could probably find a better deal elsewhere.

The bugalows are nice enough, although overpriced, but given that most people come here to relax, the staff here are ludicrously out of touch with their customers.

Music is playing in the main restaurant/reception area from 9AM every morning until late into the evening every single day. Forget trying to get a nice chill breakfast.... As it gets later into the evening, the local western staff working free like to pretend they are DJs and play progressively louder music past midnight, making it hard to sleep. It makes sense as the primary attraction of Monkey Island is that its a bit aways from the more developed area of the beach, but it is clear from the staff's attitudes and behavior that the resort is there for their entertainment.

Room Tip: Stay at Paradise bugalows next door where they don't blast mediocre music all night.

Paid $25 for a bungalow. It had alot of night time rodent visitors. Whuch meant we had a very restless nights 'sleep'
Food was good in the restaurant, and not a bad price.
Koh rong itself is beautiful.

After weeks traveling through Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia doing all the tourist things, the idea of spending several days on the beach doing nothing at all was compelling. So, while in Siem Reap, we reserved a bungalow at the Monkey Island Resort and booked passage on a ferry to Koh Rong Island, about two hours away from Sihanoukville. The resort was a bit more basic than we anticipated, but, although both of us are many decades beyond backpacking and have no interest in roughing it, it did not take long to adjust--a process made that much easier by the friendly and helpful staff, the warm waters and lovely beaches and the surprisingly fine food. To be sure, the first night was kind of difficult, what with drunken partiers getting a second wind at 3:00 in the morning. For whatever reason, they never appeared again in the nights that followed, so sleeping hours became as relaxing as those of the daytime. When the "village" side of the island begins to wear, nothing is easier than arranging a trip to the other side where an all-but-deserted five kilometer beach of shining white sand awaits. Walk the beach, go for a swim, get back in the boat that brought you (actually, easier said than done since it requires gymnastic skills lost years ago) and return to Monkey Island in time for drinks and another excellent dinner. This might not be the way to spend one's life (though there is something to be said for that too), but it certainly is a productive way to spend time out of time.

Room Tip: Rumor has it that the bungalows that are set back from the sea are quieter. Be aware that not all b...
