The open air Pavillion - the restaurant is one of the nicest and chilled out atmospheric places on the island. It`s great to have classic music drinking your morning coffe and great to have chill-out music in the evening. Yes its pricey but the atmosphere is what you get nowhere else here. Also there are not only young people here, its family friendly and also people over 30 stay here which makes it an ideal spot for me. Rudi the owner is very nice and also the stuff is. The bungalows are rustical and off course Monkey Island have beach huts little bit cheaper with power in the room to load your electric stuff. I enjoyed it here and if i come back to the island than it will be Paradise. The beach bungalows look amazing but will cost about 65 $. Travelling in Asia is waht it is and to find a cosy spot like that on an island cost sometimes little bit more. And yeah you get used to bucket showers ;-)

Room Tip: The cheap bungalows like C1 are behind the restaurant and near the generator- so it canb e loud betw...

For a 35 USD (minimum price) place Paradise Bungalows displays a surprising lack of amenities. So there are no electricity sockets in the room, only (cold) running water between 5 and 7 pm and 8 and 10 am (bad luck if you plan to leave early), no free drinking water, no shampoo or soap, no room fan. When there is electricity (between 6 pm and 10.30 pm) an unprotected generator makes deafening noise. Bungalows look out on an oddly devastated wasteland. Service was impersonal. If you don't care for these things, well then there are much better choices along the same stretch of beach for 20 USD per night less. The restaurant is nice though and the island is beautiful (although avoid diving).

We stayed 5 nights on the resort and ours was a group of 3 families - all with children between the ages 3 and 6. So, this review will probably be most useful for similar travelers.

Let me start with the Awesome parts -
1. The island is beautiful. The sand is sparkling white, and feels like talcum powder between the toes. The sea is a breathtaking blue and almost always warm. The beach in front of the resort is clean, barring some wash-up after high tide, which is usually cleaned by the staff. Also, the sea is quite shallow - just waist deep for quite a distance, so the children loved it.
2. The beachfront bungalows are very well located. Stay there if you want to truly enjoy the beach. The bungalow where we stayed, (Sammot 2) has 2 double beds in the room, so it is very comfortable for small families. Though basic, the bungalows are not uncomfortable, and children tend to enjoy the "camping" feel - especially the open bathroom out back. Our friends stayed in Mountain Bungalows, they also had 2 double beds each, but no open bathroom. Overall, considering the other options on the island, I would say this is the best place for families travelling with small children to stay.
3. The Pavilion Restaurant is a nice place to hang out. The children loved the space, Rudy's dogs as well as the assortment of board games available. We enjoyed the board games too.

The Average -
1. We found the food at the resort very average. Our expectations might have been a trifle high after reading hyperbolic reviews before. But really, the food is ok - not great, and definitely not bad. We all preferred the food at Monkey Island resort, which is a short walk down the beach. Especially since they have milkshakes all day long while Paradise does them only in the evening after 5. Cocktails and all drinks at Paradise are also pricier than Monkey. The variety of food available at Paradise is definitely more than Monkey and a few things on their menu are very good - like the wraps. But overall, despite the smaller menu, the food at Monkey was tastier as well as cheaper.
2. Most of the staff was sweet and got our orders right. But, the manager at the Pavilion was not very helpful when we had a problem and needed her to speak to a taxi company in Khmer. She actually waved us away when we came to her with a problem. She is rude. Rudy is helpful, and tries to understand what we need and recommends trips etc. But really, the only person who is any use in the entire establishment is Kate, who seems to do everything from bookings, answering FAQs and coordination. She was unwell and unavailable for a while at the end of our trip and could not respond to some urgent mails about our transport back to Phnom Penh. In her absence, NONE of the staff could help us. They should ideally have her mentor someone there so that she has a back up.
3. Here I would also like to point out that even though they increased the room rates by the time we came, they honored the original booking rate they had offered us on mail 3 months ago. Only the rude manager was a belligerent about it, but thankfully a call to Kate made her backtrack.
4. Those travelling with children, please note that the distance from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville is not really "3 or 4 hours" but more like 5 hours. Even without much traffic. You can get a minivan for $90(this accomodates around 3 couples and 4-5 children, or a taxi (Camry) for $60. Paradise can help with bookings, but best to get return also booked well in advance.
5. There is running water for just 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening. The rest of day, you have to use water stored in a drum or use the trickle that comes out of the shower - as figured out by my persistent 3 year old, who did not want to use the drum.
6. There are no fans in any Bungalows. There are some nights that this is not a problem at all, because it is mostly breezy, but one night was very calm and the kids got restless.

The Ugly -
1. Sadly, our very first impression of the resort was not great, because of the huge, stagnant pond of (what can only be)sewage that greets everyone as they walk towards the resort. This pond of sorts sits right below the restaurant and there actually is a bridge over it. It smells awful and definitely does not help the look of the place.
2. Rooms are inconsistent. We only realized this because our friends were staying in 2 mountain bungalows and there was a big difference between the two. In one, the bathroom was a part of the room(inside), thereby making the room appear much smaller. The family living in that bungalow felt a little cheated since they were paying the same amount as those living in the bigger bungalow which had a bathroom outside.

Overall I would still recommend this place, since it seems to be more comfortable than the other resorts on the island. A little pricey for what it offers, but with a lack of options, it is still fully booked. The island is certainly worth visiting.

Room Tip: Beachfront Bungalows are definitely better.

Our first 2 hours at Paradise Bungalows on Koh Rong island were a bit of a surprise: the water in the bungalows only runs 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the evening, and while the bathrooms are equipped with shower, sink and toilet it is a Cambodian-style version of modern. Nevertheless, when I woke the first morning to an orange glow filling the eastern window of our rustic bungalow, it was love at first light. Soon the whole bungalow was filled with orange light -- it was even coming in through the cracks in the floor (yes - it's RUSTIC here!). Dawn bathed the cove in pink light and promised an absolutely gorgeous beach day. Which it was.

You may never have TRULY relaxed until you've been to Koh Rong island.

Having our meals on the Paradise pavilion was incredible: the breakfasts are fantastic everywhere in Cambodia, especially if you order yogurt, fruit & muesli.

Room Tip: The beach-side bungalows look fabulous, but we stayed in Mountain 1, which is where we had the easte...

i have been there for several times now.
before i found this spot i was traveling round the world for more than 20 years looking for the perfect beach, the perfect hut, the perfect ...
since i first stayed at paradise bungalows i stopped it. no need to look and search further since i've finally found the beach i was alway dreaming of.
since then i keep coming back - for good reasons:

beautifull wooden bungalows, well mainatined with rustic rooms and big large verandas (love to swing in a hammock and enjoy the warm breeze on these verandas) - most of them with stunning views over the clean and sandy beach, the see and the other islands in front of you.
the rooms are spotless clean, well situated on a beautifull charming beach
more or less in the middle of the resort you'll find the restaurant run by extraordinarily nice and friendly and well organized staff.
the food is stunning. european and khmer food, whatever i tried i was much more than satisfied.
guess it is the food and the relaxed atmosphere that attracts so many tourists from the other resorts on the beach. but you'll still find your place to seat and eat or chill out. this place is large enough and as far as i've heard they think about expanding the restaurant again
be aware that you might book well in advance - for good reasons they might have to tell you that they are fully booked if you call the evening bevore arrival
the other good thing is that rudi - the friendly and helpfull german owner of this resort - and his stuff definately get to action once you have a problem. of any kind of problem.
so at the bottom line all of the tourists i met during all of my stays there where satisfied.
i can't recall a single complaint.
so, what else do you expect if you head for paradise?

This hotel is amazing in regards to the location - It has a truly classy resturant with great food and cool music. The only problem is the owner has concentrated his efforts on the resturant and not the bugalows which just need a few minor touches to bring them up to the standard of the rest of the resort . Overall a great place but the lack to detail in the rooms lets it down .

I was there with my friends in low season 2011 (Oct). We didn't book it. Owner, good guy aged german gave us 3 days of paradise just for a 15$ per day. Also we had a boat to watefall, some snorkling. Good and chip food in this place or estonian bar, or local place Nam Nam.
Houses are very easy, but good enough. European toilet, shower, it's ok!
Nice place to spend few days without civilezation, but with some comfort.
