Sam smith pubs are a very strange place at the best of times but this pub is plain boring pub which is soleless and tired. It needs bringing in to the times and i knows it suppose to be a part of old england but if you go anywhere in north yorkshire most of sam smiths pubs are in need of management as the last set of landlords have walked out, purly based on the fact that there is nothing to do there apart from buy drinks. It needs a pool table or music or something other than dirty red walls. I can see mr smith going bust in a few years or selling these huge potential pubs due to his arrogance.

Thank Dann M

This is a lovely pub with lots of character and a cosy welcoming,we had spent 2 nights in here drinking and eating and a Sunday lunch time. The food was lovely and reasonably priced,Nigel and Vicky really looked after us and our 3 dogs even bringing them treats. We will be going back again when in the area.

“Time Machine”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

This Sam Smith's House is almost frozen in time. Internally, it retains loads of the features from a bygone age, but not done as a simulacrum - this is real and genuine. Outside, what is the rear should be the front, a wonderful charismatic stone building with outstanding features only found on unspoilt buildings of this age.
Be Nigel's guest and enjoy the beer in the top bar, and at Sam's prices - who couldn't.
Vicky does a simple food menu, but refreshinly good and only cooked to order. Worth the wait!
Make a detour to visit this pub, closed on Wednesdays, you'll not be diaspointed with the welcome, the beer, the food, and the place.
Oh', and yes - its haunted; find the priest door/hole in the top bar......
