Description: The exterior of Brecon’s Felin Fach Griffin may be of ‘another country pub’ but step inside and it’s almost as if chintz and row upon row of horse brasses never happened. Boldly coloured walls and plush leather couches sit happily alongside scrubbed wooden tables and chairs and historic beams, but it’s the food that we’re here for…the very food that has critics raving and the awards piling up. Locally sourced ingredients, including a selection from the restaurant’s own kitchen garden, provide a centrepiece for glorious dishes full of imagination. Make the most of melt in the mouth mains and to die for desserts but remember to leave room for the spectacular selection of Welsh cheeses which really make the meal. The Felin Fach Griffin has won the Best Family Restaurant award for the United Kingdom in the 2008 Good Food Guide.

We, and two friends, stayed on Sunday 1st December on a Dinner Bed and Breakfast deal.
We have eaten here before, quite a few times, and were keen to stay and we were not disappointed it was everything we hoped it would be. Our friends had never been to the Griffin before and they were very impressed with the food, the staff, their room with the four poster bed, in fact everything.

Have tried several times to eat here at lunch without booking and often can't be accommodated but managed it recently and had a delicious lunch. Really pleasant service, very good food, not a massively extensive menu and no chocolate on the desert menu, which is never good. We had starters and dessert and drinks for two, which was 80 pounds for lunch. Set menu is £21 for three courses but little choice on set menu so we ate from the a la carte. Overall would recommend, but would also say not quite as good as the Hardwick (but only due to limited menu)..

I did originally write a long review following a visit to this establishment and Trip Advisor refused to publish it. I don't know why so I've deliberately kept this review as brief as possible so as not to unwittingly violate any guidelines. We visited this establishment on a week day lunchtime in July. The menu was very limited and the prices very high. We ordered a round of drinks and once we realised we didn't like anything from the menu made our apologies and said we didn't wish to order. The waitress asked us why and I was truthful but polite when I told her that there was nothing we fancied. Despite being polite the response we received wasn't very pleasant. I dine in a huge variety of eateries and this hostelry just didn't compare favourably as far as I was concerned to any of the others I visit.

we have been to the Griffin on a number of occasions over the last few years and it just gets better eah time. Sunday lunch is a must. we went to a Spanish Evening on 8th November which was superb, the food was excellent, wines wonderful and service good. I htink that it also provided value for money. Would definately recommend a visit.

On our way to an evening function in Brecon some friends suggested we meet for lunch at The Griffin Inn.A long very wet journey stuck in a slow moving convoy of vehicles for miles had not put us in the best of spirits. But all this changed when we opened the door of this hostelry and stepped into a very welcoming and comfortable environment. Real old fashion decor with bags of nice touches including reasonably priced drinks and a very surprising lunch menu full of interesting and unexpected dishes. The girls devoured a well presented and cooked Sea Bass dish which we men had a "Shepherds Pie" made with venison which was one of the best pub lunch dishes I have tasted for years. Great selection of wines to go with the food and it was a pleasure to be served by an obviously well drilled staff. We loved it. Now kicking ourselves that in the past we have driven past this place so many times on our travels through Wales. Well never again as this establishment will be a planned stop from here on in.
