we stayed at llangoed this weekend, looking at it as a possible wedding venue. The initial price made me gasp a little but when I arrived, all my fears melted away.
Finding the place in the dark was problematic as we missed the turning- do not trust sat nav! When we arrived, staff appeared and took our luggage to our suite ( we had an upgrade) I was surprised to find they had no formal reception desk but I filled in a registration card at the desk and we were shown to the rhydoldog suite at the top of the hotel. It was lovely, one of the 3 apparently used as bridal suites- the other 2 were occupied due to a wedding in the hotel. the room was large with comfy chairs and complimentary fruit and drink.
We dressed for diner- guys are meant to wear a jacket but we were offered one to borrow. We had leek and potato soup, I had sea bass which was one of the best I've ever tasted and my fiance had lamb. Puddings were lemon tart and tia maria creme brulee, both with icecream. It was all very good. we had the house red which was quie expensive at £22 a bottle. we left for coffee in the lounge in front of a roaring fire which was frequently attended. The staffs friendliness and service were amazing. Next morning we went for a full welsh breakfast with toast, croissants, fruit, cereals and yoghurts. It was all good.
As a wedding venue, it was difficult to imagine as the main room had an art exhibition in it. The party on the saturday night had a small do in the atrium area. They used the other lounge for reception drinks but as all the rooms were interconnecting we could hear them. I think it would be better to take over the hotel for exclusive use if you were having a wedding there.

We had a relaxing break and would recomend it for a weekend retreat or romantic getaway with decent walking and river sports nearby,

The bedrooms with their large en suite bathrooms will not disappoint.

When we stayed there were only 4 other couples there which made the place feel empty and devoid of atmosphere making it hard to relax and enjoy oneslef. Funnily enough the restaurant still felt cramped with so few people.

Some of the service was great, when you could find somebody to serve you but the breakfast waitress would have been more at home in a greasy spoon!

Having said this, the hotel is in a beautiful location and we would be prepared to give it another chance.

I have stayed here on numerous occassions, normally with a special offer, or some delicate negotiation to get a good rate. Don't try this in busy periods though.

A beautiful setting, superb food and great rooms, sadly the prices seem to creep up too fast.

A great retreat into a country idyll, perfect location, great staff the epitome of an english country house hotel. I will be back, just a bit less often

Llangeod Hall was our one big splurge on a recent trip to Wales. We stayed at nice places throughout the trip, but this was the one real luxury hotel.

The welcome was very warm, the staff attentive, and the house and grounds very beautiful. Our room was huge and beautiful, with a large and well-appointed bathroom (separate shower and tub were especially nice), and we had beautiful views across the fields at the back of the house, down to the river. The bed was so nice I didn't want to get out of it!

The food and service in the dining room were good, not extraordinary. And a real drawback for us was that there was a wedding party in the hotel the first night (Saturday), so the rooms were full but the dining room was empty because the whole wedding party was in a private room for dinner. There was one other table filled in the dining room that night. On Sunday, the wedding party was gone and the hotel was nearly empty. That night there were two other tables filled. The absence of other guests was a little depressing, especially at mealtime--it made the place seem tired.

I can imagine that in busier times the atmosphere is much better--I would like to go back at a busier time of year to see if this is so.

The hotel is quite expensive with few "extras" included in the price. We are glad to have stayed there but it wasn't a highlight of our trip. The location is beautiful but not too near the better hiking in Wales. It is, however, well-situated for activities on the river.

We recently had our wedding reception at Llangoed and have stayed previously four or five times in preparation for the wedding.

We really love this place. The Hall is steeped in history and is set in the beautiful Welsh countryside - a really quiet and idyllic setting with outlook over fields to the river and the mountains beyond.

The service throughout our wedding weekend was exemplary. Lynn, the events manager, was not around but Sam and his team looked after us very well in her absence. Nothing was too much trouble. And as well as Sam who is an excellent host, we must mention Charlie who was very professional, prompt, thoughful and tactful in dealing with all aspects of the service.

The rooms are all beautiful, individually furnished and large with large bathrooms and again, wonderful views to most rooms.

The food at the wedding reception itself was really very good. We had the Welsh Black Beef and also a Trio of Llangoed desserts to finish. Our guests all commented on how it was the most perfect day, and much of this was due to the personal and detailed service provided by Llangoed.

We would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone, as a wedding venue or just as a weekend getaway.

The rooms are expensive, but they have special deals at certain times of the year so look out for these on their website.
