We stayed here for two nights over the week-end and found the hosts, accommodation and meals all very good value for money.

The rooms were clean with plenty of storage and the bed extremely comfortable with a good feather duvet. Breakfast and evening meals were also excellent and the only fault we could find was that on Saturday evening due to the large number of people eating service was slow. However, the meal when it came was very good so don't be put off by this comment.

The village is lovely and as previously said there are plenty of places to visit from there and also the hotel provides details of local walks.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly choose to stay here again if in the area.

A party of 9 [age range from 80 to 14 - incl 4 teenagers] stopped here for lunch after visiting the Mouseman museum.

The pub/restaurant is a close neighbour of the Mousman workshops and contains lots of impressive mouseman furniture - bar stools, tables and seats -so it is a real treat for fans of Mousey Thompson.

The two vegetarians in the party were very impressed with the Yorkshire fettle cheese and mushroom pastry parcels - they agreed that this was the best vegetarian dish they had found in a restaurant -so very high praise indeed.
I can't remember all of the meals but my husband had the Whitby scampi and FIL had the Mediterranean lamb.
One friend had the ploughmans lunch which had 2 large hand carved slices of roast pork and roast beef , salad and large chunks of good local cheese and bread. Very hearty and delicious fare and a far cry from the usual limp bit of lettuce and bits of mystery cheese and an inedible roll served up so often

We opted for cheese rather than desserts and the waiter [and i think owner] suggested that rather than 3 cheese boards that 2 would suffice

wow- the cheese was magnificent - excellent choices of Yorkshire fettle, york blue and a wensleydale that was breathtakingly brilliant -plus grapes , biscuits etc. Everyone loved the cheese -there are no words for how good it was.

It can be difficult to find somewhere to suit everyone in a largish party, with diverse tastes but we landed lucky and we will definitely go back if in the area.

Our friends and FIL [who live in York] are already planning a return visit

Many thanks for those kind words, we are always pleased to cater for all dietary requirements, and also to offer something slightly different from the usual vegetarian options.
We look forward to welcoming your friends again soon, and if the need arises again, I will advise 2 cheeseboards not 3, a lost sale I know, but memories count!

A very friendly pub/restaurant/hotel in the prettiest of villages, set ideally for exploring the local area as far as Scarborough and Whitby and beyond.
The room was very clean and comfortable, although we would have liked hotter water coming out of the shower!
The food was exceptional, with locally sourced meat and eggs and home cooked desserts. A real treat!
We definitely recommend this place and really hope to visit it again.

We were taken to the pub by friends as we were visiting the Robert Thompson (Mouseman) furniture shop and Museum opposite.
We were given a friendly welcome and the lunchtime snacks were excellent and very good value.

Excellent short break in friendly pub. Excellent breakfast and evening meals. Not the most up to date accomodation but it is a very old building so that is what we expected. Lovely "mouseman" furniture in bar and dining room and right next door to the showroom. We would definitly go again.
