We stayed for 2 nights in an annex twin room and found it to be spacious and clean with a lovely modern bathroom, the hotel is quite close to the city with a regular bus service no. 2 into town every 10 minutes, but it finishes early evening. The mini bar was smashing, although a biscuit with our cuppa would have be great.
A good breakfast but a bit overcooked on the second day, staff were helpful too.

My partner and I stayed here as part of her birthday trip away. The hotel is stunning from the outside, the reception area clean and modern, the bar/restaurant also (although this was empty morning and night so we decided not to have a drink there). The room was up one flight of stairs and along a corridor at the top of another staircase. No noise whatsoever. The room itself was very spacious with a double kingsize 4 poster bed, flatscreen TV on wall and a coffee machine. Mini Bar is also FREE if you go for the deluxe room which we did. Matress was memory foam giving an amazing nights sleep. Bathroom small but clean and contemporary + complimentary soap/moisturiser/bath and shower gel.
Location is very good but not perfect. About a 1mile walk into the city which is acceptable, although taxi's are pricey depending on the time of day. Only thing to pick at was the hotel carpark, very very tight and small, could probably only accomodate around 7 or 8 cars (smallish cars).
Only regret was staying there for just 1 night.
Will definatley be returning

I can't comment on the hotel as our problem is we are stuck in our home because of snow and the forecast isn't that brilliant for the this weekend. We arranged a family get together for our sister/sister-in-law's 40th birthday ,(10 people), coming from various parts of the country. 8 of our family booked for 3 nights 3,4 and 5 December and we booked for 2 nights 3 and 4 December.
Because of the weather situation we tried to postpone to a later date and even though we said they could hold the deposit towards a further booking we were told in no uncertain terms that as it was less than seven days to the booking, terms are terms and we had to either turn up or we'd be charged anyway. So bear this in mind when chosing this hotel.

nice clean hotel. relaxed staff. very comfortable bed. good heating. nice airy room. We stayed in a double room on top floor overlooking the main road. the decor was very nice, black and white themed with modern appliances and furniture.
there was an iron, a safe in the room, extra blankets, shampoo and shower creams and hand wash and moisturising creams in dispensers, so no fiddly bottles or sachets,
there was complementary shoes cleaning kits, sewing kits, dentals kits etc and a complementary free mini bar with a couple of cans of soft drink and bottle of beer and a small bottle of nice white wine.
there was a Bosch drinks making machine that did hot choc , coffee and tea. staff gave extra drink sachets on request,
the extractor fn from another room was a bit noisy but not for long, and the drinks machines were also rather noisy.
Apart from that it was a lovely hotel and we had a very nice break,
The staff were very laid back and helpful when you asked them, but didnt interfere or gush.
I like that,
Some people may find it a bit standoffish and rude as they expect a toothy smile and lots of ''have a nice day'' type things! i thought the desk staff were just perfect.
PS the car park was very small. I would not have dared park in it as i am not very confident at navigating small spaces. but there was space for at least 9 cars.
pps walk to the minster about 15 mins.

Got a last minute deal, decent price, not far from the centre of York. Rooms ok but a bit noisy being next to the car park at 7am. The breakfast , which we eagerly awaited was a big let down. The food was reheated and the deep fried -fried egg was strange to say the least. It was very well done - several times I would guess. They say that it is cooked to order, but that clearly isn't the case. Breakfast is £7.50 on the day and for this I would expect a quality freshly cooked meal.My wife complained to the manager who said he was aware that the food was'nt so good. No opologies were forthcoming. Subsequently my wife was ill. Otherwise it was a plesent stay.

Stayed here Mon 4th October prior to visit to University of York. Incredibly small, tight car-park - my husband would have exploded if he had seen me trying to park his car! Room was in an annexe attached to the main hotel. I found the black paint-work a little macabre, but teenage son liked it, and said it was modern and trendy. Room was spotlessly clean - it had very high ceilings with no cobwebs. Room had excellent "extras" - complimentary wine/beer in fridge on arrival - most welcome after stressful day; ipod docking/recharging station; mini-fridge with fresh milk, tassimo coffee/tea machine; very comfortable beds; plentiful hot water for showers. Good breakfast served in main hotel next morning.

My partner and I recently dined at the hotel noir restaurant. We understand it has just reopened and we were very much looking forward to visiting our local restaurant again. As usual the managers' service was excelled and we eagerly awaited our meal. I ordered lamb shank and my partner ordered sirloin steak. The food was tasty as always but the steak was supposed to come with handcut chips. What I received were clearly shop bought, frozen chips from a packet. Whilst this may seem to be a small point and it did no way spoil the evening for us. I do feel that for restaurant to maintain it's high standards, the menu should not be misleading. If the chef is prepared to take short cuts such as this it could lead to a further drop in the quality of the food and restaurant. This would be a great shame, as this establishment has the potential to be a very unique place to eat out in York.
