Incredible range of Nabatean tombs set in stunning scenery. Well worth the trip - even more so since the site is so little visited and there is a sense of wonderful isolation.

“More Natural but Less Grand than Petra”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

This place is incredibly well preserved since the Saudis have pretty much avoided it and left it alone. The other reviews have explained what Mada'in Saleh is so I will stick to my views. It is a long way from Riyadh or Jeddah and there are not really any places to spend the night, except for one hotel that costs $150US or so a night. Al Ula might have hotels but I do not know. The tombs are interesting and impressive from the outside but get repetitive after seeing a few. There is nothing inside any of them. There are no services inside the park. No drinks, food, or information. If Nabatean history keeps you up at night or gets you excited then it might be worth the trouble and time to get here. But if you are just a normal tourist wanting to see something new then visit Petra, as it is much more impressive and Jordan is more welcoming to tourists with much better facilities.

“A Must See destination”
Reviewed May 18, 2014

Madain Saleh is a must see destination in saudi. A very well maintained archaeological site.
in 2008, this site declared as UNESCO World Heritage. Many Tombs and caves houses are spread across vast area. you can drive thru inside the site to reach each of tombs.

Madain Saleh is 2000 years old nabatean settlements. Recommended to visit those interested in archaeological and Historical site.

“Well worth the effort to get there!”
Reviewed May 2, 2014

We visited Mada'in Saleh, Al 'Ula and Medina on a tour, and it was a fascinating trip. Mada'in Saleh is similar to but not as grand as Petra, yet well preserved and lacking the hordes of tourists. The many tombs were amazing feats of engineering and hard to believe they were cut into the rock 2,000 years ago. I wouldn't mind returning, and if I do, would try to go at sunset, when the light seems to be at its best. The Hejaz Railway station on the premises is also worth a short visit.
