“Breathtaking views”

I definitely recommend you visit Madain Saleh if you are living in Saudi. A group of us booked two rooms at Al-Arac hotel. The accommodations were very nice, though they seemed to not have our booking on file, though we booked with an approved website. Pricing for the room was reasonable, but food was pricey. I highly recommend our tour guide, Saeed Al-Johani (saeed1384_2@hotmail.com), who arranged our permits into the heritage site and gave us a great tour of the area, museum, and other nearby locations. There was no rush from him and he was extremely knowledgeable of the area. On top of all of that, he charged a good, reasonable price. Make sure to bring your camera, decent shoes for climbing, and a light jacket for brisk weather, Honestly, this place is gorgeous, the geology is amazing, and the history behind it all in very enlightening!

“Magnificent!”

An outstanding reminder of the Nabateans and their quality craftsmanship. Petra's baby sister. I feel privileged to have visited both places.

“Indiana Jones would have loved it!”

Well organised site, which is enormous.... The tombs are spread over a vast area, ideal for exploring on foot in winter. A vehicle would be preferable in hotter months. Rather disappointed with the 'attractions' at the Hejaz railway station....all closed on a January Saturday.

“Little Petra”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

Not as impressive as Petra, but definitely worth visiting. The permit must be obtained for visiting the site, but it can be done easily. I called the Arac Hotel and they provided me with the details, where should I fax the request and who should I call to obtain the permit. With a help of Arab speaking colleague it was done within 4 h on the day before we visited the site. However it is better to provide 2 to 3 working days to obtain it.
