We had a great time visiting the Nabatean ruins, as well as other sites in the area. The scenery is beautiful and vastly different than that of the rest of Saudi Arabia. None of the sites were crowded, which was very nice. Of course, the highlight was the famous Nabatean tombs--they are breathtaking! There are many tombs in this area and they do all look similar, but the subtle differences between them are interesting to note. You can go inside the tombs as well (beware--they smell like pee!). My husband and I had a great time climbing around on the rock formations where the river used to run through (near the religious area). You can climb up quite high and have an amazing view of the surrounding area. The only downside is that this place is so far from civilization...8+ hours from Jeddah= too many germ-infested roadside "bathrooms." And, of course, you can only visit if you happen to be in KSA. So if you are, I recommend it!
