We had a lovely grilled fish platter at this hidden gem.

I say hidden gem because it looks fairly downtrodden from the front, but there is a terrace facing the sea which is absolutely idyllic. Only a few meters from the sea, in a lovely rustic setting. This is the point which makes it a five-star for me - this is probably a very good four star local restaurant in an unbeatable setting.

If you're going to El Golfo, you may as well have the famous fish. We did and it was excellent with the papas and mojo.
One tip is to order some extra papas arrugadas if you're having the sharing fish platter.
The puddings didn't tempt us so we passed - in hindsight, maybe have a starter instead of saving room for dessert.

It's not genuinely cheap, but nor did we feel cheated; evidentially a reasonable price.

We had called in here for coffee on a trip to El Golfo and my partner was impressed with the fish options on the menu so a couple of nights later we decided to make the drive from Playa Blanca to have dinner. For starters I had fish croquettes and my partner had prawns in garlic both of which were in quite large helpings. I am not really a fish food lover unless it comes covered in batter or breadcrumbs so I had the steak with pepper sauce which was very tasty. My partner had the mixed fish platter and she thought it was very good. We both had desserts and coffee so quite a full meal to say the least. Service was excellent throughout and the speed was just right - much more relaxed than what we had got used to in our hotel. The bonus for this restaurant is it's location right on the sea front with spectacular views wherever you look - it was just a pity that the evening we were there the cloud masked the sunset.

We had one lunch in El Golfo and chose Bogavante, as the staff were less pushy and it was less showy. In fact from a distance the building is not very eye-catching and the terrace is hidden. We were fully rewarded as the team were most friendly and helpful, and the fish was fresh and cooked with great skill. Fish soup had real depth, local fillet of the day kept its texture and flavour and mussels were meaty and in a fine sauce. The terrace is not showy, the tables sit in the black pic on shale, but the view across the sea and beach is unspoiled. The food does the talking here.

Good fresh fish right on the beach beside crashing wave. Location is excellent. Food not as good as I had remembered from 8 years ago but a good spot for our last lunch prior to the flight home.

Great setting right on the beach. Couldn't get better.
Two family members had menu de la casa.... and found it adequate but not amazing. I had some great sole. On retrospect we should have gone for the fresh fish on the blackboard. There were some amazing platters of food being served. We just didn't choose them! More fool us!
Would go again
