I have just returned from a wonderful weekend on Clare Island. This hostel only opened last year, but I'm surprised that there are no reviews of it yet. Its a great option if you want the best of everything on this lovely island - a genuine friendly welcome, comfortable accommodation, spotless facilities and amazing amazing food! The hostel is attached to a restaurant and bar, and the owner - John - is a wonderful chef. He catches the fish on the menu fresh every morning - and is happy to show you his haul if you are interested! All of the staff are friendly and helpful and super keen to ensure you have a great stay on the island.
For only 22 euro per night, the hostel is only a few minutes walk from the ferry, has a wonderful view of the small beach and bay and across to Achill Island and Croagh Patrick. A self-service breakfast is also included in the price, which is exceptional value.
We used the hostel as our base to explore this charming and peaceful place. After a long day of walking we came back and relaxed in the communal area and then later on the bar was a lively spot at night with locals and visitors, musicians and tourists. We ate in the restaurant both evenings, and my boyfriend is still going on about the mackerel he had - on both nights!
If you are looking for a comfortable and affordable option, and a memorable experience, don't hesitate to give this place a go. We are already planning our next trip!
