Owner description: An awe-inspiring stretch of volcanic wasteland: a desolate and bleak monument to the power of Mother Nature.

Anyone visiting Lanzarote must go on this excursion. I would recommend booking through Last Minute Travel as their prices are a 1/3 of Thomson prices, with enjoyable guides too! The national park is as if something from another world, highlighted by the fact that the Charlton Hestons planet of the apes was filmed there. The terrain was amazing, how the lava has formed the rocky landscape. The restaurant in the park provides opportunities first hand to see the remaining heat under ground, with geysers etc, and the coach tour around the park is edge-of-the-seat stuff!

I cannot emphasize enough how much any visitors must go to this park, a once in a lifetime trip.

I absolutely recommend this trip when visiting Lanzarote, the scenery is magnificent, my children who are 10 and 7 loved this trip and were totally fascinated by it all. We had a car hire for a few days, we arrived to the park entrance at around 11:30 we did have a bit of a wait on the main road but was not to long. Entrance fee was €27 for a family of 4, once we got through the entrance area we drove a bit further along and had to wait again another 10 mins or so before a parking space was available, again no big deal.

The parking area is very well organised a few attendants working together directing cars to a parking space. Once parked we had a steep walk up the hill to get onto the tour bus. There was no room for us on the bus, so another 10 mins or so another bus came along. You can not drive yourself or walk around the national park.

We got on the bus and sat on the right hand side...a good side of the bus to sit on as we found later on, the tour takes around 45 mins and there is a recorded tour narrative in Spanish/English and in German, which is really interesting. The bus stops a few times along the route so you can take pictures, which is where we found our side of the bus was a good choice....A lot of the points of interest were right outside our window side and those on the left hand side were having to leave their seats a few times to get pics. Only one time did we have to leave our seat to take a pic out of the left side..something to think about.

After the tour on the bus (The Star Wars theme at the end was an excellent touch!) we got off the bus to go and see the 'pit' a small volcanic crater that projects heat, the organisers there occasionally threw in some hay to set it on fire then we were directed up to the top area where we were shown a mini geyser, the kids loved this. Just in the restaurant area there is another pit where chickens were being roasted over it and the smell was divine.

We didnt eat here, and we did find the gift shop very expensive but the actually tour was our highlight really worth visiting.

Our tip was to try and sit on the right hand side of the tour bus.

We were picked up near to our apartments and taken to this attraction. It was fascinating to see the park and it was very interesting to hear how it came about. We thoroughly enjoyed the experiments that were shown. At least one made us jump and the other shocked us when we were given hot volcanic ash to hold, and I mean hot...

The Volcanic national park is well worth the trip. When you arrive get the bus and you get to see the park from a good view point. Sitting high in the coach you get to see all the old lave flows and the way the lava settled . The rock is quite like a Dali painting , as it shows the rock in a "melted" look. Very interesting.

Excellent morning, amazing place, arrived at 9.30am and beat the crowds, drove there on fantastic roads, people who work there are very organised and helpful. Volcanoes and landscape are amazing, out of this world.
