Our 2 night stay was wonderful. Mark and Sharon were fantastic hosts. The house are garden are immaculate and our room was very comfortable. Not only did we enjoy gorgeous breakfasts, but also some inside knowledge on the local fishing scene. Castle Hill Lodge exemplifies why it is is often a more enjoyable experience staying with welcoming and interesting people rather than impersonal hotels.

Sharon and Mark were fantastic hosts. We spent 2 nights at Castle Hill Lodge and intend going back . . We are from Southland and had past the Lodge many times commenting what a great place it would be to go and chill out. How right we were. A home away from home.
Sharon does a superb breakfast and Mark a great mine host especially when it comes to the BBQs. Great beds and surroundings.
Thanks so much Sharon and Mark for 2 fabulous days.

Castle Hill Lodge is just magic: Sharon and Mark are really good hosts: Welcoming but not OTT. They even let us share the place on Christmas day and use their BBQ.
A comfortable, relaxed world [close enough to Queenstown] and, yes, that bath is great! Not forgetting Hercules the magnificent.
It suited us down to the ground.

Room Tip: Can only speak for ours [that one with THE bath] - the room was was very comforable too

Mark and Sharon are fantastic hosts and are extremely welcoming and friendly. I enjoyed a lovely afternoon nap while hubby used some local knowledge provided by Mark and went fishing just down the road. Their home is beautiful, very warm and comfortable, and our room was lovely with the most amazing bath we have ever seen. The Lodge would be a beautiful place to stay in Winter and Summer, and ideal for couples and families alike, with lots of friendly animals and a spacious, private section to keep the kids entertained.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the huge bath!

Having always gone on organised package holiday New Zealand was going to be an experience. We booked this fantastic place but didnt realise how great it was going to be. Mark and Sharon couldn't be more helpfull, they organised trips for us and then welcomed us back with excellant home cooked food that you can arranged in advance. They truely have embrassed the Kiwi way. Nothing is to much trouble. The scenary and the animals that surround this lodge are wonderful. If you want to treat yourself then book one of their beutifully decorated and comfortable rooms you will not be disappointed or go hungry. Will definately make a return visit.

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful try book in advance to avoid disappoinment but they will try to accomodate e...

I was looking for an all-inclusive accommodation + fly fishing package and came across Castle Hill Lodge while randomly surfing google. Mark and Sharon were excellent hosts in every respect and I can safely say that my holiday fully lived up to expectations. From the pick-up at Queenstown airport upon arrival, through to sorting out my fishing licence for me, and then arranging the top-class services of a local fishing guide, my every need was catered for and everything was absolutely spot on. The accommodation at Castlehill is very comfortable and Mark and Sharon quickly make you feel one of the family with excellent home cooking and a genuinely warm and friendly atmosphere. If you're wanting to get away from the crowds and sample some South Island peace and tranquility in a beautiful setting at a very reasonable rate, then Castlehill Lodge is the place to go. If I fish in New Zealand South Island again, I'll definitely be back. It was hard to leave..!

The Upper Mataura River basin is a world-class fly fishing destination and this is by far the nicest accommodation available in that area. Besides the Mataura, the Oreti, Nevis, and numerous smaller streams are nearby. The owners Mark and Sharon are super-friendly and quickly make you feel at home in their home. The bedrooms and amenities are all top-notch and the Kiwi style hot breakfast every day is a great way to start a day on the rivers. Highly recommended.
