“Scenery is amazing”

This is perhaps my favorite passage tomb of Ireland. Not crowded like Newgrange. There was volunteers that give people a quick guided tour of the tomb and give you a flash light to take some pictures. There are several old artworks on the rocks inside. There are several smallers tombs around the complex as well. It is a nice walk up to the top and the views are amazing from up top.

“Amazing views”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

The site if not easy to find, we drove past several times but finally found the cafe where the key and all the information about the site is located. If someone has the key to the cave site you either have to wait until they come down or take a chance on meeting up with them on top of the hill. Once we arrived at the parking area we were not prepared for the climb its quite a climb to the top but worth is as your 360 view is amazing. The cave with the carvings is what is locked there is an iron gate that is kept locked. We had to leave our driving license at the cafe as a deposit for the key. We were told to keep the key in our possession at all times and not to give the key to anyone else. take a flashlight or torch with you it is very dark inside the cave. I would not advise it on a wet day the hill was slippery even on a dry day. GPS and SatNav helped us find the cafe.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

I want to say it was really bad to keep people away form this amazing site... But if you love Neolithic sites this is a must! The carved stones in the cairns were amazing and the view is as if you are on top of Ireland! It is a pretty steep climb and access is only by foot. But well worth The 360 degree view. We had trouble locating the site as the signage is not good. for example there is a t junction and no sign ... ? Try and get there early in the day because when we arrived we could see the carvings at the back of the main cairn, however once we walked around and came back the entrance was fully shaded and if we hadn't seen them earlier we wouldn't know they were there.

“Great stop when the weather is good”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

I wasn't sure what I would find - with travel instructions of - go to the coffee shop to get the key, then drive to the site and hike up the hill, but it was fun. We had a snack at the coffee shop first, then since someone already had the key, we drove up to the parking area and hiked up. It is a nice little walk up through a sheep pasture. I think it is were really windy or rainy it wouldn't be the best and would be slippery - I actually slipped on the way down. However, it is lovely to see the site alone, without tour guides and hang out as long as you want. It is pretty incredible inside - much smaller than Newgrange, but great stone carvings. You don't often get to see Megalithic art, so very much worth the trip.

“Loughcrew Megalithic Cairns, August 2013”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

Well worth the walk, we visited on a lovely clear day in August. The view is more than worth the walk, 18 counties to survey! The cairn is great, the symbols and carvings are very clear. The guides are very informative. For me, this is better than Newgrange. I like the simplicity of the tomb and its presentation is perfect, no drama. The views are worth the climb without the cairn. The witches seat is cool, the teens liked it. Hopefully their wishes will come true.
I would visit again and again just for the view. Its peaceful and not overdeveloped, no bus or tourist stuff... just peace and quiet. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone.
