“Good for a brisk walk with a wonderful view at the end”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

This is a beautiful place to sit and look at the numerous counties of Ireland that can be seen from its peak. Visiting the inside of the tombs gives a sense of time and significance of humanity.
The date below is not the date of attendance, I have been on numerous times from 2001 - 2009

“Beautiful and Interesting”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Went with a tour. The hill you walk up is a bit steep and is not for everyone. Tons of sheep roaming about and cattle nearby. You get very nice views from the top of the entire countryside and a lake(forget the name?). The tombs/cairns are very interesting but i would recommend going with a group/guide if you haven't done any reading or research beforehand.

“Stunning Views”

Stunning views all around. Worth a look. Would be good to go with a guide to point out the different counties.

“missed the site entirely because of car break-ins”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

I hate giving such a bad rating, because Loughcrew Cairns were at the top of my must-see itinerary for Ireland. But when I drove up to the parking area, key in hand from the helpful woman at the tea room at Loughcrew Gardens, I found 2 parked cars that had been broken into. When the occupants of one of those cars appeared, they didn't appear too upset about it, which gave me an uncomfortable feeling. So I left, having seen none of this wonderful site I'd read so much about.

So my rating is just to be a warning to people: If you visit during the off-season, there's nothing to keep someone from breaking into your car too. I guess if you leave nothing inside and leave the doors unlocked, perhaps your car will be spared? The individuals I met whose car had been broken into had also left credit cards behind, in a bag in the trunk, hidden from view. And that was taken too. Just not worth the risk.
