Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa
Certificate of Excellence

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The reception staff was excellent. The dining room staff however is on reactive mode not anticipatory. We gave feedback to the management and they reacted promptly and positively. We think that if Marriott hired a kitchen/wait staff consultant to teach the folks in the dining room about serving and service that that would be a good investment. We especially appreciated Natalie's attention to service. An intern who is on top of what's needed.

We stayed three nights at the Renaissance. We'd heard that it was hard to find, but it seemed fairly easy to get to from our point of view. We took SP 2 up and then followed the signs up to the hotel. They have a gate and an attendant on duty. Then you drive up 2 km to the hotel. The hotel is very impressive, sitting up on a hill overlooking the valley below. We were impressed by the service right away. They whisked our luggage up to the room, parked our car, and brought the keys back to us in nothing flat. The bed was extremely comfortable and there were plenty of electrical outlets for our appliances. The room was spacious and the view from the balcony was spectacular. The town of Barga was off in the distance and the rest of the valley laid out neatly before us. The bathroom was large and the shower was absolutely fantastic. Breakfast was extensive and very tasty. All of the help were very busy making sure we enjoyed our meal. Maria at the Navigator desk was extremely helpful with getting us settled in and oriented to the area. She's a real help, so make sure you take advantage of her expertise. The pool looked very nice; however, they had unseasonably cool temps and rain while we stayed there and were unable to use it. Overall, I'd come back during a hot Italian summer and bask in the coolness atop the hill at the Renaissance!

Room Tip: Valley view rooms are spectacular!

a beautiful resort that provides a fantastic facility with an amazing view of Tuscany. Very peaceful and invigorating! Rooms, beds, pillows are top class. The view from Veranda restaurant is just breath taking. Overall a great place to enjoy Tuscany in style.

Room Tip: view of the Tuscany valley is well worth the additional cost

We stayed at the hotel for about a week. The room was in a run-down condition, broken wardrobe doors, broken doors to the shower cabinet, mold in the shower, the toilet flush was running continuously, and the staff had made sure that the heating couldn't be turned on by removing the radiator thermostat, even though temperatures dropped below 40°F (which is admittedly uncommon in May). Moreover, the floor of the room was covered with dust and the bathroom was cleaned only superficially. We also spent one day without hot water and didn't even receive an apology from the hotel staff. 16 EUR for an at best average breakfast buffet and 11 EUR per day for internet access in the room (there is free WiFi in the lobby) are overpriced. The only positive aspect about this hotel is the nice view over the Tuscan valley, but that's about it.

Room Tip: Most rooms in the main building seem to have been renovated recently.

Fab holiday in serene spectacular middle of nowhere Tuscanny; views were like moviesets, service (except for the buffet breakfast) flawless, and we cannot wait to return. Snow capped mountains, crisp air and lovely quaint villages dot the landscape.

Room Tip: simply ask for a room with a view and let the magic begin; real magic, not disney style

location itself: beautiful valley near barga, 45 minutes drive from lucca.
take care when driving up there... some locals are good drivers, some are risking their and your lives and some of them shouldn't even drive anymore because they are too old.

Positive: New modern rooms, improved customer service, same beautiful valley. I appreciate this place more because I stayed here prior to renovation in the old rooms. The difference is like night and day. Congratulations to the staff and Marriott on a job well done.
Neutral: Still not very easy to get to. Requires a car or taxi from train station.
Negative: I had to leave.

I cannot emphasize enough how great this place is now compared to two years ago. I'd recommend the resort to anyone attempting to get away from the hustle and bustle of tourist spots. I spent plenty of time on my balcony simply enjoying the view of Barga in the valley.

Room Tip: The executive view rooms with a balcony overlooking the valley are well worth the modestly small inc...
