“Room with a View in Tuscany!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

Gorgeous views of the Sergio Valley and the lovely medieval village of Barga from my room in this lovely resort made my stay in Tuscany among the most memorable experiences of my life. The views from the terrace while at breakfast, from the pool during a morning swim - magnificent! An early morning walk around the manicured grounds, taking in those lovely views in all directions, folowed by a generous breakfast buffet was a perfect start to a day of touring the nearby town of Lucca. The room was superior - well appointed with all the amenities a traveller requires, very clean and the bed welcoming and restful after a full day of sightseeing. The front desk staff always made me feel so welcome too!

Room Tip: Thr hotel has been recently refurbished and all the rooms seem to have the same great decor and grea...

This location is spectacular in view and service. Very new to the Marriott family (am told that it has only been about 6 months). They are slowly making adjustments to be consistent with the other Marriott/Renaissance properties. The only drawback for our family of three was that we thought we would be closer to Florence. In fact, it was at least 1.5 hours one way. Some staff speak little to no English, however, they certainly tried their best or referred us to other personnel who could communicate with us. The location was breathtaking and the hotel room was modern, clean and serene. We felt very spoiled here. We had breakfast and dinner there most evenings and were happy. Dinners were at a much slower pace than what we were used to - not necessarily a bad thing, however it could take between 2+ hours and dinner service starts at 1930 hours. The only challenging aspect of this property was trying to drive in and out of the parking area on the terrace (very narrow ramp which my husband dreaded). No valet service was offered.

Lovely resort in the middle of Tuscany. We spent 5 days with our 2 teenage boys and could not have been more pleased. Wonderful service from the front desk. Both Maria and Antonia were most helpful when it came to helping with a rental car issue and offering great advise concerning touring around Tuscany. We went to Pisa, Lucca, Barga, Cinque Terre, Florence and several small off the beat Tuscan towns. Each day we returned to the beautiful resort to rest and relax. Great location with all the comforts of the Marriott name. Beautiful views and large, newly decorated rooms make for great comfort. A hidden gem in the breathtaking Tuscan Mountains!

Have just returned from a seven day stay at this hotel. Lovely hotel, superb views and facilites onsite. If you are happy to eat in the restaurant, use the gym/sauna and pool, absolutely great, but you will need a car to explore the area and eat out as no where is within walking distance. Staff are great. Had a good stay and would happily go again.

My wife, three children ages 4,4, and 5, and our Mothers stayed at Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa for 3 nights in two separate rooms. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with a nice balcony to relax on. The bathrooms were very large. The rates for the rooms were outstanding and very good value. Our children were entertained and given hot chocolate by the waiters at the restaurant. We used the pool every hot day there and it was relaxing and enjoyable with a beautiful view of the surrounding hills. Somewhat of a long walk from the parking lot to the hotel. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. For us, the only downside to this hotel is that breakfast is not included in the price. Bravo!

Getting to the hotel from Rome isn’t easy but the setting of the hotel makes it all worthwhile. The hotel is located on top of a hill and the views are incredible. The rooms are very comfortable but make sure you ask for a room in the main building and with a view. They're the best ones.

It's worth spending a few days just relaxing in the hotel by the pool. Book a massage. It's a must. Laura, the massuese, was fantastic.

If you want to look around in the area you will need transportation. Borgo a mazzano is 20 mins away and Lucca is 40 mins away. The hotel can arrange for activities such as cycling or horse riding or car tours so look into it in advance. The biggest disappointment was the food. Though the breakfast was good, lunch and dinner are not. I had pasta with mushroom for dinner and it was lumpy. I ordered apple pie for dessert and it was warm on the edges but frozen in the middle. Tomato pasta at lunch was inedible. Food was tasteless. They are also understaffed in the restaurant so it will take awhile for everything. I recommend you have breakfast at the hotel but go out for lunch and dinner.

I didn"t have a safe in the room so make sure you are very specific in the type of room you want before you get there.

Beautiful hotel, we really enjoyed our stay there. Though the staff is very friendly, helpful and nice, not all of them delivers the professionalism you would expect at a Renaissance property. I understand that Marriott recently took over the whole place, so I guess they need time to give proper training to all of their staff.

Room Tip: Try to go for a room with a view
