“Beautiful B&B”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

Just returned from a trip to the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. Stayed at a beautiful B&B near the Wilson Gardens in San Vito and have to say that this is one of the nicest and most unique mountain top B&Bs we have ever stayed at. Very comfortable, great food, and extremely nice and welcoming hosts. Very close to the town of San Vito and to the amazing Wilson Gardens.

Room Tip: Lowest room on mountain has beautiful view but a quirky sort of shower...not reliable hot water.

A birding pal of mine and I needed accommodation near the Wilson Botanical Garden. A short walk down the road, Casa Botania seemed like a great option. I suspected a modest place with adequate rooms and a modest breakfast of fruit. Instead Kathleen and her husband Pepe way over exceeded my expectations. The view from the bedroom was gorgeous! Out in the yard, crimson-faced parakeets and Blue-headed Parrots flying overhead, with Blue-crowned Mot Mots sitting beside the road at the driveway etc etc! This alone from a birders standpoint warrant staying here! But it gets better. Beautiful quiet nights with nightjars calling and immaculately clean modern rooms. Breakfast is way over the top delicious. Did I mention the homemade fruit smoothies? People come from miles around just to purchase the homemade bread Kathleen makes! My prediction is that this place is going to get crazy busy in the next few years just because its so beautiful here and it's such a great value. Thanks Kathleen and Pepe! We loved it here!

After our stay at Casa Botania we're sure to return to southern Costa Rica,
Pepe, Kathleen (and her mother and father, who were visting from Belgium while we were there,) welcomed us in and made us feel like long lost kin folk! Clean, comfortable, "vista" rooms, wonderful breakfasts and and genuine interest in addressing any and every need are the hallmarks of Casa Botania.

There is beauty every you look in Casa Botania. Cabins are situated to make the most of the mountain vista while giving guests privacy from each other. Every cabin has a little terrace to watch the changing sky of clouds, sun and birds. The rooms are immaculate and there is fine wood, drapes and sturdy fixtures everywhere. This young couple poured their hearts and imagination into building their place, particularly the dining area which looks like a large jungle nest with no straight angles. Breakfast in plentiful, unique and delicious. Dinners are very pricey but a nice walk into town and a taxi back provides an alternative.

We went to San Vito to see the nearby Wilson Botanical Garden. We stayed at Casa Botania because it was the nearest lodging to the botanical garden and it got good reviews on Tripadvisor. The pleasant surprise was that the stay at Casa Botania was worth it just for the food! If you request it, Pepe and Kathleen provide a 3-course meal each night. The food was WONDERFUL. We had dinner there on four nights. The main dishes were osso buco (an Italian beef specialty), mahi mahi (fish), chicken tikka masala, and tuna. The first courses included a delightful squash / potato soup, breaded zucchini with a sauce on it (absolutely scrumptious), and a Greek salad. The desserts included chocolate mousse and bananas Foster (wonderful!). I find that I am now recommending that my boss go to Costa Rica just so he can eat at Casa Botania, since he really enjoys good food. And that is a long way to go (from Michigan, U.S.) just for some good meals.

The view from the dining room / porch was spectacular -- jungle-covered hills. Pepe and Kathleen were quite friendly and helpful.

If you go to San Vito, plan to eat every evening meal at Casa Botania. There is nothing in the area that can come close to competing with it.

My husband and myself along with our good friends spent a lovely weekend at this very nice B & B in San Vito, Costa Rica. PePe(costa rican) & Kathleen (Belgian) are the owners, as well as the designers and builders of this awesome little haven. They provide a delicious breakfast (included in your stay) and upon request will also prepare a dinner for you . If you find yourself in this part of Costa Rica this is the place to stay, don't even bother looking any further, really! :) You will not be disappointed, I promise.

A lovely getaway, with stunning views, excellent food and superb hosts! The bungalows were comfortable, private and immaculately clean. Hummingbirds were everywhere. The meals provided would fit in with the best restaurants I've been to in Central America. And, to top it all off -- Kathleen and Pepe are genuinely friendly, kind people. They've created a marvelous sanctuary in the hills of Costa Rica, and I highly recommend Casa Botania to anyone looking for a good vantage point from which to enjoy the beauty this region offers!
