“Felt more at home than we do...at home!”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

This is a very special place, ran by very special people. We feel extraordinarily fortunate to have found it. After nearly 60 days on the road - we truly found a gem worth sharing. The entire property is a botanical oasis and a feast for the senses. The owners, Kathleen and Pepe, seem to have poured heart and soul into the details. The cabin views are breathtaking, and the layout/setup/décor was very cozy, clean, and private. The breakfasts provide all you could ask for...all home-made to order selections, fresh coffee, the works! We could not help but enjoy an intimate and gourmet dinner at the property as well - and our expectations exceeded. Highly recommended to stay for dinner with this talented couple rather than driving the short distance to town. It is a short walk to the lovely Wilson Botanical Gardens. The knowledge and passion they shared with us about the local ecology, geography, history, and (of course!) botany was extensive and added much to our understanding of Costa Rica. The owners have that 'touch' where you are made to feel welcomed - but not 'waited upon' - more like friends than customers. These are among the warmest people we have encountered. Incredible value as travellers. Memorable experiences for a lifetime. Hope to be able to return. Just stay here.

We spent three nights at this charming little B & B. The views are breathtaking and the accommodation so comfortable and of a very high standard. Sitting on the balcony looking over the valley is just perfection. Kathleen and Pepe worked very hard to make our stay memorable and the high standard of food on offer was exceptional. We enjoyed three evening meals and they were probably the best food we experienced on our whole trip. The breakfast was, of course,. first class. Pepe has an in depth knowledge of the local wildlife especially the birds and any serious birdwatcher would have a great time here. We must have counted over 25 species from our balcony alone. This young couple and their little son deserve every success and I wish them all well.

Breathtaking views and fantastic food. Come for the remote scenery which is some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. While here you can take in the regions many hikes and birding opportunities, but plan to be back for dinner. Pepe and Kathleen are wonderful cooks and offer one of the best meals you will have while in Costa Rica. They are wonderful hosts for the international traveler as well since they speak several languages. They are also very kid-friendly!

Booked two nights and stayed four! Hard to leave this beautiful, peaceful spot with amazing hosts, and views. Food was outstanding, Kathleen and Pepe go out of their way to make you feel at home and offer helpful advice about the area. Could have stayed longer, as we loved the climate, the scenery, access to Wilson Botanical Garden, and our hosts. Thank You.

Wonderful small B & B in the mountains of San Vito, near the Panama border and just down the road from the WIlson Botanical Gardens. Kathleen, the owner, will also serve (an excellent) dinner by request-- on a beautiful porch. The 2 rooms--- both individual buildings-- overlook a beautiful mountain valley. Kathleen and her family are friendly, gracious and wonderful hosts. Couldn't ask for more!

This is not your average B&B. First of all, the setting is spectacular with views to west over San Vito. Everything is bathed in this beautiful golden light at sunset and the mist comes in gently giving the area an other-worldly feeling. The room I stayed in was just a few steps away from the main house. It was clean and spacious with a large well appointed bathroom. The balcony off the bedroom was where I spent several afternoons reading and looking at all the birds that flew about the property.

The breakfast that was served was wonderful and they also offer evening meals which were outstanding - imaginative, tasty and excellent value. They were the best meals I ate during my 2 week trip to Costa Rica.

Kathleen and Pepe were very accommodating and gracious hosts. Pepe took me on a wonderful birding hike one morning that blew me away - he is a very experienced and passionate guide. Kathleen was very helpful getting my arrangements made and giving great advice about this beautiful area of Costa Rica.

The Wilson Botanical Gardens are a flat one kilometer walk down the road from Casa Botania which makes this place an excellent value.

we stayed here for one night on our way through san vito and were stunned by the views across the valleys and the wonderful meal we had. This really is a little gem of a place. Everything is clean and tasteful and our 2 storey accommodation with 2 rooms were so comfortable and peaceful that you'd never have huessed you were located just off the main road into san vito. our room had french windows and we sat there watching the sunset with a glass of wine and only moved to go for dinner which is expertly cooked by our 2 dutch hosts. I wished we were staying longer and hope to return to explore the area more. Worth visiting for the views, the delightful hosts and the amazing food. They open as a restaurant in the evenings and have built up quite a following amongst the locals - always a good sign. The rates were very reasonable .

Room Tip: all rooms are wonderful
