It’s unbelievable how in the United States in 21st century people working in HOSPITALITY industry would make you feel so miserable just because you are a woman. It’s beyond my comprehension and I wouldn’t believe if it didn’t happen to me. Here is the story.
My fiancé and I were staying at Harras for our ski vacation in Lake Tahoe. He was taking too long to round up at the casino, so I decided to go ahead and get a dinner at this restaurant. The hostess asked me few personal questions and after learning that I might be dining alone told me that that they don’t have any table at the moment and offered me to seat at the bar which was located in a separate room. I honestly didn’t care where to get my sushi so I went there. Sat there for good 15 minutes thoroughly ignored by the bartender (a lady as well). Finally my fiancé showed up. And – oh magic! – there is suddenly a table available for him. And not just one as I discovered when we walked into the dining room, it was almost EMPTY!
I still can’t believe that it actually happened to me. And I can’t find any good explanations of WHY it happened. I doubt that I was confused for someone I am not - I don’t dress provocatively and I didn’t even wear a make-up. But regardless, who are they to judge?! Are we living in United States or in Arab Emirates?
