“Not even close to meeting expectations!”
Reviewed October 12, 2008

Way below par! I've stayed at Marriott's various different hotels throughout the US. Other than location, this one has nothing other than the high fees for various services. A brief list:

1) The bed (something Marriott generally prides them selves on), was the worst bed I've ever slept on. This was NOT the Marriott standard; but, something more in line with what I would expect from Motel6!

2) Broken and non-working fixtures. Items such as a light (which may of actually been dangerous) didn't work and had loose electrical parts. The fireplace wasn't even connected properly and was not functional. Fan in the bathroom failed.

3) Poor construction - Don't try to close the door on the closet, as your clothes DON'T fit. Wow, I've never seen anything like this; but, the hangers hang out of the door! Just Weird!

4) Unprepared - Despite having a reservation for 4 (2 kids), the sofa bed had no sheets ready. 20 minutes after a call, we finally received low end polyester-cotton (50/50) blend sheets and poly blankets.

Other than being located at the Heavenly lift, I see nothing good about this hotel. Next time I'll try the *real* Marriott, as this is a big waste of money, time and travel!

This was the second time we stayed at the Grand. This time we stayed in a 1 bedroom suite. The Grand is at the tail end of a rennovation and everything is new looking again. The fabrics are very nice and reflect the lodginess of the area.We were not bothered by any noise associated with the rennovation though the web site did carry a warning when we made our reservations.

Before reserving this or other any South Lake Tahoe lodging look closely because not very many of them have the typical luxury hotel services like room service or on site restaurants. The Grand is actually an ownership property much like a condo and is not a hotel. But unlike hotels, it has kitchen facilities.

Our unit was spacious and quiet on the 5th floor facing the main road. We heard no street sounds and the bed was fantastic. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. The valets were always looking for ways to help us though we had no questions for them. We thought about using the city parking garage which is very nearby, but convenience always got the best of us and we opted for the $19 per night valet. The city garage is $23 per day but no in & out.

We went down Park Ave to the private beach every afternoon to enjoy the sunset. It seems like it would be a great beach in the summer for families plus there is a beachside grill that is open in the summer. On the way to the beach we passed Paradice, Secrets, Station House and 3 Season Inn. All of these are motor lodges and not in the same league as the Grand so it is very odd that they would rate so much further above the Grand. I guess there is something for everyone in South Lake Tahoe.

We stayed for 3 days. There is only one restaurant (Mongolian barbeque theme) on the property and it is open for lunch and dinner. Morning coffe in the lobby is $3/cup. Plan to walk for breakfast. There are numerous nearby restaurants, shopping and casinos.

The beds in the rooms are dreamy. Otherwise, the rooms are ordinary.

There is a great gym facility with over 20 stations in addition to free weights. A shower facility is also available.

There is valet parking only on premises although Marriott also operates the nearby parking garage. The valet service is extremely friendly and efficient. Parking is $19/day.

The property fronts on US highway 50 so traffic is heavy and noisy during the day; no problem at night.

Much as the other posters here have stated, Late check in, early check out, rude front desk staff, totally inflexible, 0 amenities, No room service, odd room layout(bathroom has 0 ventilation and the door has to be propped to stay open) and despite the fact that we were told the room had been booked prior to our arrival and the 85 degree weather outside, the air conditioning was turned off and the room was literally baking hot. My favorite part of the experience was being told by the front desk "We are not a Hotel", funny considering we booked the place as a hotel room on priceline.

The only positive things about this place were the location and the friendliness of the bellman/valet staff. -- They should be considering you are required to valet for 20$, since there is 0 parking other than this service.

The Marriott Grand Residences is in an awful location right on the busiest, nosiest intersection in Lake Tahoe. The rooms are located above stores, restaurants, and a lame mini-golf course. Yes, the rooms are big, but poorly equipped with strange layouts, and have cheesy gase fireplaces, unnecessarily HUGE kitchens, long hallways, tiny bedrooms, and a virtually inaccessible sleeping area in the living room. The rooms are located miles away from elevators and contain multiple broken locks and a sign on the door leading to the patio warning guests not to leave children unattended in rooms (leading me to believe there are safety issues in that area of Lake Tahoe). This "hotel" had absolutely NO SERVICES AT ALL except a concierge who offered us probably the worst recommendations in town. Oh, they did have an afternoon reception, but we were forced to skip it after my husband was scolded by a teenage employee when he attempted to take his beer and snacks by the pool so he could attend to our children.

Last but not least, there were absolutely NO greetings, gifts, or upgrades for Marriott Rewards Members, even Platinum. As I mentioned earlier, our room faced the noisiest intersection in town and overlooked a Raley's supermarket and strip mall. Hey Marriott, aren't Platinum members guaranteed upgraded rooms?

This isn't the first time TripAdvisor has let us down, but it was the most heartbreaking because the poor location ruined our trip to Lake Tahoe. As first time visitors, this SO wasn't the experience we were looking for. If you are going to Tahoe to experience the natural beauty of the area, stay FAR away from this place or you will be sorely disappointed. I so wish the reviews on this website didn't scare us away from the Hyatt in Incline Village, which was our first choice. Even if the rooms weren't as nice, the gorgeous location and extravagant amenities would have more than made up for the extra space in the room.

If you insist on staying downtown and need extra room, consider the Embassy Suites, or even the Marriott Timber Lodge, as both are in much better locations set back from the major highways (although both have rooms facing the street as well), Keep in mind that all of these hotels are close to the casinos.

This is definitely the best place to stay in South Lake Tahoe! A condominium hotel, it is located in the heart of Heavenly Village and there's no need for a car. Restaurants, casinos, private beach, movie theaters, spas, golfing, boating, hiking, markets, etc. are all within walking distance.

The Marriott Grand Residence Club offers Guest Rooms, Studios, 1-3 Bedroom Residences and Penthouses. We stayed in a 2 Bedroom Residence which offered a big bonus - 3 full baths - not usually found with 2 bedroom units elsewhere. It also had 3 separate entrances for privacy if sharing with another family.

Just refurbished with upscale bedding and furniture, it had all the comforts of home. This is also a great place for families. Portacribs and high chairs are provided by the hotel.

I would definitely recommend this place, the newest in town, for couples or families who want a relaxing getaway.

I am now just reading what some people are writing about this place and am glad to say I had a terrific experience.

We are in our late 20s and middle class, and valeted our Corolla and didn't have any issues. The cost to valet is $19 with in and out privileges, which isn't bad at all and very convenient. We asked for early check in, which we got and so we checked in at 10 am. The ONLY negative thing about the hotel (beside not having a lake view, which would have been incredible, but not having one wasn't bad..our room, 4412 looked out to a mini golf the hotel has, but it was quiet) was that when we checked in, there was trash outside of our room. It looked like the maid service had left this. We called to have them clean up and it was promptly removed.

In any case, the location of the hotel is perfect. It's next to the gondola and right next to the casinos. It couldn't be better. The room was had was incredible. It was a 1 bedroom with a living room, kitchen, and dining area attached. The whole thing was huge. Both sections had fireplaces and there were two bathrooms. The bed had a down comforter, the windows had dark blackout curtains and lighter ones you could have if you wanted privacy but natural light. Theere was several couches and single comfy chairs. The kitchen was full of appliances and utensils, so you could really stay here a while. I felt at home and wish our trip had been longer!
