“Very nice place”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

the place was a nice surprise, first because the room was much bigger than we expected, and had a little kitchen and a small dining area and also- a fireplace. the lamp needed fixing and we needed a bit of guidance with the fireplace (coming form Israel wen a fireplace is something you see only in movies :) ) but the staff was very helpful and reacted imidiatly to our every call.

The location is not the most central one, but it's great of you're coming with a car and there is parking on the spot. Breakfast is basic and nice.

On the plus side the beds were very comfortable and the basics (sheets, towels, bathroom) clean. However, the room is overall quite dirty (especially the carpet, lampshades, ac, wallpaper) and in desperate need of renovation. Some of the bathroom fixings are rusted. Breakfast is very limited. Overall not recommended.

All I can say is if you want a restful night sleep and friendly customer service, don't stay here! When we arrived, the girl at the front desk acted annoyed that we had arrived (even thought we were the only customers around, sorry we interrupted your text time). When we got to the room it was really cold so we decided to turn the thermostat up a few degrees, to our dismay it was broken, the cover even feel to the floor! Went to the desk to let them know, they reassured us it would be fixed by the time we got back to our room within a few hrs. Got back to our room at midnight to find out that it is freezing cold and the heater had never been fixed. Of course no one was in the office at the hour so we could not complain. We decided to make do with it. They only put a sheet and the lightest comforter possible on the bed, so that didn't warm us up at all; they did not have any extra blankets in the room either! During the night we could hear people walking around upstairs, absolutely no insulation whatsoever; we even heard our neighbor singing in the next room! After a few hrs we finally go fed up and went and slept in our car so we could keep warm! Next morning decided to take a quick shower before having to leave at the crack of dawn to drive further to a funeral. Low and behold the shower bearly had any power behind it, took me twice as long to rinse off than necessary. After that I could not get the damn knobs to turn off! Almost just left the shower running, but after twisting the knobs numerous time we FINALLY got it off. Also, the sink kept making noises the whole few hrs we slept in the room before moving to the car. All I want is our money back for our stressful terrible time, we should not have to pay for something we didn't really even stay in. No one was in the office that early the next morning so I could not complain, but I did email and they have yet to respond. They clearly don't care about good customer service! I would not recommend this place to anyone ever and I will definitely never stay again! Tahoe is such an amazing place to stay at, so many better hotels around for sure!

This was the perfect motel for our needs. Got a great price for three nights with an additional 15% off. It was walking distance from the Lake and offered free beach access, so we saved $20/day just on that in beach parking and entrance fees. The room was large and fairly clean. The breakfast was runny oatmeal and bagels and juice. We didn't starve but it could have been better. Also, there was only one toaster for the bagels, so there was a lot of standing around waiting. The desk help was pleasant.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor hear little feet upstairs, but we sleep with a fan so it wasn't a probl...

Big Pines exceeded expectations during our Tahoe vacation this fourth of July weekend. The rooms were great for the price, equipped with a fridge, nice bathroom toiletries, and a clean shower with good water pressure. The hotel had a clean, refreshing pool and a nice outdoor area with picnic tables where you could eat breakfast. What set the hotel apart was the wonderful staff. Because it was the busiest weekend of the summer, we weren't able to check in early. However, the staff assured us we could keep our car there, enjoy the pool and passes to the private beach (a leisurely 10 minute walk away), and use the (very clean) lobby restroom as they worked on getting a room ready.

Also, a few of the other motels we passed during our stay were overrun with teenagers for the holiday weekend. Somehow Big Pines avoided this problem entirely, hosting mostly quiet and polite families and middle-aged couples. Even on the holiday weekend, the motel stayed quiet, clean, and never once felt crowded. Thanks again for a fabulous stay!

Big Pines Mtn House was quite, clean and comfortable. A great inexpensive place to stay after a fun day on Lake Tahoe. We looked through the more well known casino hotels a short block away and if their rooms were as dirty and run down as their casinos I'm really glad we chose Big Pine as the price was great too.

With so many hotels/motels in this area, it's hard to choose one! We came up earlier then planned and were looking for a cheap place to stay. We were pleasantly surprised with Big Pines Mountain House since there are a lot of sketchy and or broken down motels in the area! This was an amazing deal! The rooms were simple yet large, and very clean! The beds were comfortable and they left clean towels for us. Although It is tucked away from the Main Street, all of the main attractions are within reasonable walking distance! I wish we stayed here the whole trip, we would have saved a bunch of money and it was better then the fancier more expensive hotel down e street!
