This little inn is not bad at all and I'm sure many people will like it. It just failed us on the temperature control and snooty breakfast policy. We were there in the winter to snowboard at the nearby Heavenly Resort (truly Heavenly) and it's really hard to get a consistent temperature in the room as it's either fireplace on and get super hot or no fire on and get cold. If you can't sleep well that's a deal breaker. The owners try really hard to make a gourmet breakfast but can be a tad snooty about their cooking and as innkeepers they shouldn't take requests as a personal offense. Normally these sorts of small independent hotels that put a lot of effort into the property come off well but next time we're in Lake Tahoe we'll stay at the charming (really, you won't believe it) Marriott in Heavenly Village.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the Seneca room. It's too close to the dining room noise.

The Black Bear Inn exceeded my expectations after my arrival and during our stay. Conveniently located in the middle of S. Lake Tahoe's residential neighborhood, it is close to everything: Ski, Casinos, restaurants and lake - 5 minutes driving to everywhere. Its 2-story building occupies a large corner lot facing a main street.
Rooms, clean & beautifully decorated, are much better looking in real life than their pictures on its web site.
The hot tub-jacuzzy, located outdoors in a gazebo, offers the perfect place to relax, after skiing all day.
A very nice breakfast area, very well serviced, where they offer a very well prepared & healthy meal. Do not expect too many options for breakfast since they cook eggs & vegetables in a different way every day. But they are willing to substitute for other option if you do not want they daily offer.
I highly recommend this B&B for couples, romantic trip, seniors or anyone looking for a quiet inn, with beautiful decor, close to main attractions, easy parking & upscale quality. I felt like staying in a private home owned by a wealthy friend.…

Room Tip: We stay at the Falling Leaves suite. This is a very nice room upstairs with a balcony. The fireplace...

We stayed here midweek in a very dry snow season. Paul, the manager, helped save our snowshoeing plans by directing us to Hope Valley which was stunning and enough snow to have fun This inn is an architectural gem. Stunning property all designed by the owners. They cook an amazing breakfast.

If we've been to a better B&B, I can't remember! They do it right in all respects from the main room in the lodge to the breakfast and the cabin we stayed in. Beautiful grounds - very peaceful and well laid out. Stayed in Black Bart cabin and loved it! Thick towels, lovely robes, comfortable beds. Very well maintained throughout. And the breakfast! Stayed two nights and both mornings we were impressed by the food and presentation. Ate the the Blue Angel the first night (very casual but good after a long drive) and Riva Grille the 2nd night. It's on the water and nice view and decent food, if pricey.

If you are going to SLT and you want to stay in a wonderful B&B the Black bear inn is a must. Jerry and Kevin are the best. Jerry helped us plan our first day and pointed out many must see places around the lake. The Inn is gorgeous, well maintained and so clean. The grounds are beautiful and make sure you take your bathing suit because the hot tub is wonderful after a day of hiking. There is wine and cheese every evening at 5PM which gives you a chance to meet some of the other guests. The only thing that they could do to improve upon excellence would be if they had a few umbrellas for their guests to use. One of the days we were there it rained all day and an umbrella would have been helpful when we got dressed to go to dinner. I would highly recommend this B&B it was great.

Macho dimensions (2 linebackers can fit in shower), classy macho style. Each day's (ample) breakfast is novel.
Quiet gem of a place to read in your own pine forest, while all the others knock themselves out skiing. Kitchen.
Great base for Lake Tahoe hikes.....get back on time for the wine & cheese hour.

20 min. walk (sober) to casinos.

Incredible colorful groundskeeping, peaceful. Fun Stellar's Jays bouncing around.
Excellent restaurants across the street.
I wish we stayed longer.

Room Tip: All the cabins are quiet and private

Fabulous bed and breakfast. Rooms immaculate with Ralph Lauren towels. The surroundings were breathtaking. Breakfast served. Jerry and Kevin (the owners) could not have been lovelier and the breakfast a gourmet delight. Don't miss the opportunity staying here. FABULOUS!
