“Good deal, but more of an extended stay hotel.”
Reviewed February 25, 2009

If you're looking for a 4 or 5-star hotel, look elsewhere. This place definitely feels like an extended stay hotel. It's a bit larger and more homey than a normal hotel room, with a kitchenette and dining table. The kitchenette was fully stocked with a cups, plates, and silverware. Appliance-wise, you get a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and a blender. The sink is tiny, so washing dishes can be a challenge. The dining table was a nice touch - for some reason, it just made the room more comfy.

The bathroom was clean, and the towels were pretty good. As a previous reviewer mentioned, there's two showerheads, but this sounds better than it actually was because you can only use one at a time, and one of them sucked.

The furnishings were a bit dated but functional. And by dated, I mean mirrors everywhere and a color scheme somewhere between pink and red. However, the bed was nice and firm, and there were enough blankets to keep us warm. And if you need to turn up the thermostat and you can't find it, look behind the TV. There's no air conditioning, only a ceiling fan, so I can see it getting hot in the summer.

I don't know if the walls were thin or not, but we rarely heard our neighbors. Maybe we got lucky. However, we had a room next to the stairs, and in the morning, the sound of ski boots descending definitely woke us up.

One note - we reserved through Orbitz, and they will forward your credit card info to the hotel instead of charging you at the time of the reservation. So don't freak out about getting double-charged when the front desk says they're charging your card for the night(s).

Overall, we had a good stay at the Americana, and will definitely recommend it to our friends.

The stay at this hotel was great. we loved the fact that we had a toaster, frige, coffe maker and blender. the staff was wonderful and very helpful. The rooms were very clean. The only bad thing about this hotel is that the walls are very thin you can hear everything. but other than that. our stay was wondewrful. Close to everything.

We went last year, and we wanted to return again for Christmas but its all full. This is one of our favorite hotels to stay at. Its very clean, the rooms are verry specious, and it even brings a little kitchen and bathroom is spacious.
We had a great time, and they have delicous pop corn in the lobby.
Hope to be back soon!
Sorry no pix at this time, but the ones in here are exactly what it looks like. Plus you can walk to the gandala for Heavenly!!!

We were pleasantly surprised at this accommodation (room 337). We reserved it through RCI and were a little concerned as we are used to 4-star places. Yes, it appears to be out of the 1950s, but the interiors are well maintained--although a little dated. Lots of mauve and green. But it is all VERY well maintained. VERY Clean, smells normal (not dirty, stinky or perfumed)--unlike the last poster who is obviously a disgruntled former employee. Comfy king beds (large bedroom w/TV, nice big double shower/bathroom, nice great room w/table seating 6 and two couches facing TV. Ceiling fans; no AC (like most of Tahoe).

Biggest downside is no deck off the upper floor units. However, there are lots of seating areas on the green lawn (w/colorful flowers and tall evergreens) below. This resort has more or a garden/green feel to it than most in Tahoe. There is obvious owner pride in the maintenance. The staff are all extremely friendly and accommodating without being obnoxious. There are many motels of this vintage in Tahoe and I'm convinced this is one of the better ones. Whether this is your only choice or one of many, you will be happy with it. Only partial kitchen but large refridgerator and microwave. Office will loan hot plates and electric skillets. Hair dryers available for loan.

Quiet, relaxing location yet in easy walking distance of all the great shops and casinos. Nice green grounds. Enthusiastic, attentive staff. Popcorn all day/night. Activities and sports equipment available (not skis). Wireless internet access. Free DVD movies/200 title library. Free morning coffee/donuts. Swimming pool, hot tub, sauna. I think this little place goes out of its way to do as first rate job as possible.

The location (in walking distance of the lake, shopping, casinos, etc.) and the grounds, combined with the ultra clean rooms and fabulous customer service, make this place a real sleeper/find.

  • Liked — location, grounds, quiet, cleanliness, customer service
  • Disliked — no upper deck, no AC,

The hotel is clearly an older property that they're trying to keep up to date. The layout of the rooms are truly funky, but functional. Bed mattress was very firm which was great after a long day on the slopes. Bathroom and kitchen are small but nice and functional (coffee would have been nice to go with the maker!). The rooms were clean enough though the furniture was a bit soiled/old. What made it enjoyable was the staff...very friendly and accomodating. They had clothes washers and dryers available for free which was great. Complimentary coffee and donuts in the morning (grab and go). The thing that I found great was they had this sister hotel across the street from the Heavenly gondola. You just park your car with Americana's sticker in your window at their sister hotel (Stardust) and walk across the street to hop on the gondola...doesnt get much easier than that! Net net, I would probably stay at this property again...for the price it was what I expected.

  • Liked — Staff very friendly and accomodating...sister hotel parking for gondola was the bomb!
  • Disliked — room layout was kinda weird, but it worked

We basically enjoyed our time in Lake Tahoe due to the wonderful weather! The hotel, was O.K. We were greeted by the manager of the building that was very receptive and inviting. The carpets were filthy, and the beds were very hard. The next morning we went to the office to ask for an eggcrate or some kind of relief. The person on staff saw us standing there but chose to keep her conversation with another employee totally ignoring us. When she did acknowledge us, it was in a very rude manner. We did get an eggcrate on the bed though That afternoon. Didn't help much. The hotel was pretty quiet and in walking distance to many attractions to both the California and Nevada side. We left a couple of days early to come home to a comfortable nights sleep before our vacation was over with. Also, during this time of year, the room was very hot in the daytime. No AC. Had to keep fan going all night and it finally got cooler in the a.m.

We found this place on a tahoe hotel website I'd been over and over for weeks. Because it was the weekend for the Music Festival, the other hotels were not only completely booked but even the one-star hotels had doubled and tripled their rates. We stumbled over this accidentally and couldn't believe the inexpensive rate. We checked on tripadvisor and read great reviews so booked it. We weren't disappointed. Very clean, the staff was polite and fast--we arrived early and instead of making us wait, they up-graded us to a larger studio! Dual-head shower, pedestal king sized bed, separate TV area with sofa bed, kitchenette set-up and centrally located. This is a real find. The other people we met up with hadn't heard of it and were staying in more expensive popular hotels that weren't up to standards. This is a great find for an inexpensive decent place to stay with great service. Also, because it seems to be a place where lots of families stay, it's quiet in the evening-no loud music or parties.
