“The best place to stay in South Lake Tahoe!”
Reviewed March 22, 2011

We have stayed here multiple times now and keep coming back for the clean rooms, excellent service, and hot tub! This place is a great value as you can take advantage of multiple free extras that are not currently advertised. These include golf clubs, snow shoes, laundry facilities, board games, fishing poles, movies, popcorn, and the list goes on. In particular, Nick in activities was very helpful in getting us oriented in the area. He also cooks a mean pasta sauce from scratch. We highly recommend this place for your next Tahoe adventure.

The bedroom is separate from the rest of the suite, which is nice. The bedroom has its own TV. Since the one bedroom also sleeps up to 5, the bathroom is off by the kitchen area, which has a full-size refrigerator, microwave, and small sink. We always went to get coffee in the activity center, but there is a coffee maker in-suite. The suite was VERY clean. The shower has no tub, but double showerheads made it much easier to bathe a small child than a small shower stall with a single showerhead.
The best part about the resort is the activity center. There is a $49 resort fee for the week, but we got more than our money's worth. Since it was the off-season, a free breakfast was offered every morning - which included tasty donuts from Tahoe Donut as well as coffee, juice, tea, and cocoa. During the week, boiled eggs and fruit were offered too. When we checked in, we were given extra meal tickets because we had no use for the wi-fi. We were able to eat dinner twice at the resort (spaghetti and chili) using the meal tickets, which helped save money on our vacation. We were short a ticket to cover our entire party one night, but a meal only cost $5. The activity center is open from 7 a.m. until fairly late in the evening (9 or 10 p.m.) and is staffed with friendly and knowledgeable people. They check out equipment (like bikes), games, and movies, which is included with the resort fee. Craft activities and tours are offered, but we did not do any of them. We did go on a few hikes that staff recommended (Cathedral Lake, Tahoe Rim Trail by Spooner Lake, and Fallen Leaf Lake), and they were great.
We did laundry a couple of times during our stay. The machines are located in the exercise room, and it's not open 24 hours. The washers and dryers are free to operate -- you just have to buy your own detergent and there is a machine with All and Downy located by the dryers. On our last day, staff printed our boarding passes before we checked out, which was really helpful.
I would stay here again if we visit Lake Tahoe.

my wife and i were in u.s.a. from england for our first visit.we were touring by car and had looked up the americana on the internet before leaving home.upon checking in we were not dissapointed.good facilities in the rooms if staying for a while great bed /showers/clean etc.we had for the first night a re-modelled room and were apprehensive about being changed to an older room for our second night.(the motel is a time share so the time share people get the rooms they require but this is no big deal).we need not have worried as to us there was no difference other than being upstairs(no lift).both rooms have a full width dividing heavy curtain which means you can shut of the bed from the sitting area if required.the tall chap who does the odd jobs around the place was one of the nicest people we met in our three week trip.the pool was always hot enough to use even on a cold sept morning.

The Americana was a motel at one time. They are in the process of upgrading it. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms. Although it was small, it was good for 2 people. It had one king bed and one pullout couch. I think it would be too cramped for 4 people. They made very good use of the small space...they thought of just about everything. There are 2 flat panel TV's, free internet, comfortable bed, refrigerator, dishwasher, free hot plate (since there is no stove), great shower. All of the furnishing were new. Very clean. Staff is very friendly. My only suggestion is that it could use a little more interior light and maybe AC. Otherwise, it was excellent!

We stayed at the Americana for 3 nights with our two daughters, age 6 and 9. I can't say enough good things about this gem.
The check in was smooth and the girl at the desk was super friendly. There is popcorn always popped in the office and my girls REALLY enjoyed that. There are also doughnuts every morning, which was also a big hit with the kids.
The room was quaint and clean. The kitchenette had a decent sized fridge, a microwave, coffee pot, toaster and all kitchen items you could need. There is no stove or cooktop, but the office has electric frying pans you can check out for free during your stay. We did that and were able to do a lot of cooking in our room, rather that eat out- which is nice.
The pool is heated to 85 degrees and they have pool toys to use, another thing my girls enjoyed.
They have a variety of movies (older movies) that you can check out for free and there was a DVD player in the room.
A wonderful benefit is that they have bikes to check out to guests, free of charge! They have many bikes and in various sizes. We are able to get bikes for all four of us, helmets for the kids and locks. We really enjoyed a day of biking around the lake.
There are two sets of washers and dryers on site, again free for guest usage. They do charge for laundry soap, or you can bring your own.
There is an activities dept, and they do offer activites, but we did not do any of them.
There is also a nice private beach guests can use offsite, on the lake. They give you a card to get in the beach, but when we went there it was later in the day, and no one was checking.

We would not hesitate to stay here again, it was perfect for our family!

When you look at the pictures on the website, on this site, or any place for the Americana Village you will see what looks like a ski hotel stuck in the 80s. Not any more. We stayed in a brand new room, with granite countertops, custom cabinets, stainless steel appliances and two large flat screen tvs with built in DVD players. The bathroom had a great shower with two shower heads for spa-like treatment. There is a shuttle stop right outside of the hotel (on the 7's) that will take you to the bottom of Heavenly Ski Resort in about 5 minutes or around town for free. The pool and hot tub are average and the outside of the place is reminicent of a 1950's motor court, but don't be deceived. The interiors are really nice. In fact, during the day while we were skiing there were construction crews working on more renovations. They didn't make any noise after 4PM and didn't start until after 10 or so....either way it wasn't a nuisance to us because we were out enjoying Tahoe. For the price, location, and renovations, you can't go wrong with this place. Awesome Experience.

The Americana is a perfectly fine timeshare, and the location is just plain perfect in my favorite place to vacation: Lake Tahoe!

The lack of full kitchen was the primary issue, and the rooms (with the step down to the bathroom) are only adequate. Nevertheless, the pool/spa is great, they have loaner bikes and golf clubs, and they do some "extra" things to make it fun and less expensive (free taco night was a highlight, given the fact that we couldn't really cook due to the kitchen issue).

The staff is friendly and helpful, and it seems like a great place for kids, so I would definitely recommend it for families. Being walking distance to the casinos was a plus, and free access to the beach was a HUGE bonus for a non-beachside resort to provide. Overall, a positive experience, but hardly a five star place.
