“Great 3 nights skiing (Englishman in Tahoe)”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

I stayed 3 nights in this great hotel recently. I was a single traveller skiing, but managed to use all the facilities (bar, food, spa pool, free Internet etc). The hotel is clean and has good facilities for the price. I had a very big double room. I used the hotel as a base to ski in heavenly (a few mins walk to the gondola), Kirkwood (45min drive) and Squaw Valley (<60mins). The only thing I would say is the breakfast is a little limited by US standards - however as a Brit I found coffee, granola and a pastry more than enough. I picked this hotel because of everyone's good Trip Advisor comments - thank you everyone!!

We visited the Basecamp Hotel late October 2012 and I'm sorry it's taken so long to write this review as I love this place! I loved everything about it, from the decor, the comfy beds, the breakfasts (delicious pastries!) and the great staff. There was not a single thing I would change about the place and we would all like to go back here. My 3yr old is still talking about the fire pit and toasting s'mores at the "bear hotel". We would definitely come back here!

This hotel provides everything you need and nothing you don't. This 50's motel was completely renovated and opened last summer. Rooms are clean and new. A basic breakfast is included. I love the base camp decor! Its just a cool place. Rooms have various bed options, we stayed in a room w/ bunk beds, perfect for our guys ski trip. Hot tub after long day of skiing was perfect. Six minute walk to the Heavenly Gondola and restaurants. Two minute walk to casinos. Staff was helpful and friendly. Ill stay here again when I return to Tahoe.

We normally stay in one of the big chain hotels but saw this one and thought we'd give it a try. We stayed in the Great Outdoors room with the tent. Room was nicely done with the camping atmosphere. My only complaint with the room was that it was a little dark and needed more light to see. The front desk quickly added a floor lamp which solved the problem. The breakfast could use a bit more variety and include some fruit. After eating the same oatmeal and bagels for 4 days we were ready for a change. Good coffee, tea, and bar selections after a nice day skiing. Hotel staff were very nice and helpful. Hot tub is a bit on the small side and use an update but served the purpose. The decor was cool and nicely done. Located close to the Heavenly gondola it was an easy walk. We recommend giving it a try.

We read the reviews and came prepared to eat breakfast elsewhere, but I can promise you the breakfast is AWESOME (unless you think a Continental b-fast involves a chef flipping custom omelettes..in which case, get a grip). We ended up staying 9 nights and can promise if you stay here once, you will NOT stay anywhere else. Has a bed/breakfast trendy feel. Oh you want to know when happy hour is? It's whenever you want. Oh you want popcorn with that lobby movie (that you picked out on Netflix)? No prob. You want s'mores for the patio bonfire? It's on the way. Every hotel on the planet needs to be as unique as Basecamp. That's all..and we miss it already-Nikky & Brian

What a great ski lodge for hanging with friends and enjoying an apres ski around the firepit outside the lobby or inside on their massive leather couches. The rooms are very well decorated and feel like you are in South Lake Tahoe. Oh and not to mention you are only a block away from Stateline at the Casinos.

I will definitely return on my next ski trip this weekend!

Our family of 4 stated here for two nights. The hotel was clean. Service was friendly. We would recommend it to friends. Please note that this is an old motel converted to a stylish hotel. The basic parking, room layout and buildings are not changed, just the deco are upgraded.

GOOD:
- Very close to the Heavenly Village so there are many food choices nearby
- Clean room and bathroom. Good service. Modern computer check-in/out.
- Excellent breakfast

BAD:
- This is still a bit far to walk if you are on ski boots. Snowboarding boots are definitely OK. 8-)
- The heat is a big temperamental. We needed to work the control a few times before it turns on/off.
- The spa area was icy and very slippery, be careful.
