The new owners are doing an awesome job of painting, repairing and refurbishing. Including new doors, heating/air conditioners. Rates are fantastic and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.

One of the seemingly dozens of small, older motels within a few blocks of Stateline, Blue Jay Lodge was undergoing renovations when we were there, the week before Memorial Day weekend. They were replacing the roof, air conditioning and heating units, maybe even the beds. Our room was clearly recently redone, with a mix of newer and older furnishings, carpeting, bedding, paint, wood paneled ceiling, etc.

We reserved a king room and requested the single story section if available. There aren’t many rooms in the one-story part of the motel, and as it turned out a king room was not available. The very nice woman at the check-in desk gave us a choice, and let us see both rooms: A king room in the two-story section, or a queen room in the one-story. We opted for the queen room, but I will admit the king room was nicer. The queen is quite small, but for two people it is acceptable. The king room seemed much roomier, and well worth the small extra charge ($2/night during the time of our stay, which was low season).

The good: The bed was comfortable, the room very clean, the plumbing worked well (all new fixtures), and there’s a mini refrigerator / freezer plus microwave in the room. (They offer some sort of breakfast, but we never tried it so can’t comment on it.) The room is far enough away from the main street that there’s no traffic noise, and being a one story (and having only a single room occupied on one side), there wasn’t a problem with noise from other guests. There was plenty of hot water, and the new heater worked very well. The wifi worked well for us, with no problems.

The not as good: The window blinds do not come close to fully darkening the room, and since there is an exterior light right outside the window, the room is far too bright for sleeping (“sleep mask” recommended). Like most mini-fridges, this one was fairly noisy, so you’ll need to put up with it or wear ear plugs. I’d much prefer to have a noisy mini-fridge than none at all. There are very few electrical outlets available for plugging in laptops, chargers, etc. There is one in the sink area (two receptacles), and that’s about it unless you want to unplug something (e.g., the 27” tube TV). They offer free passes to the private beach, but they aren’t available (they don’t get them) until Memorial Day weekend and we were a week before that. Lighting was ok (a lamp on each side of the bed), but the table area was pretty dark. No Kleenex was provided.

Bottom line: Clean, quiet, comfortable, and inexpensive: A difficult to obtain combination, but we found it here. As long as your expectations are in line with the price, this seems to be a very good deal.

(In reply to the preceding review, the $3/day is a South Lake Tahoe lodging tax.)

We scored a room here, on Memorial Day weekend, for $38.50 a night plus tax and $3 a night fee. Who knows what that fee is for since there are no amenities here. The pool was drained so I cant comment on that. The lobby was clean when we checked in. The entire process took less than 2 minutes with no chit chat. Just pay and heres your keys. I read lots of reviews on Booking.com before reserving and it was pretty much what I expected.

We stayed in 118-bottom floor-2 queen beds. The room had been painted fairly recently-in yellow. There is a large closet area that could actually fit a double size air mattress if you are partying and need to pile a bunch of peeps in your room. It was pretty clean. No mold or bugs or hairs anywhere. The beds were comfortable and the pillows werent paper thin. On that note, neither are the walls. The motel seemed full and we did not hear anything from our neighbors, through the walls. Bathroom is small but thats fine. Hot water and decent water pressure. Shampoo sucks. The breakfast offered is coffee, bananas, pastries. We did not partake. There is also a coffee maker, cold fridge/freezer, micro, and hair dryer in the room. Tv is small. Heater and air worked fine. Wifi does not.

Side note: There is a taco place right next door which seems new. 4 tacos (Corn tortillas, cilantro, choice of meat, and lime) and a pepsi for $10.26. Walk to Harveys in 4 minutes (less than a block away). Mont Bleu in 10 mins.

I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 119 only has one neighbor and is at the end of the hall. It is downstairs though.
