“Not what it's Quacked up to be”

Family goes to Tahoe ever other year. Grandma came this year and is not up much for hiking so we decided to take the Duck Tour. I've heard nothing but great things about the tour in other cities and thought this would be ideal for the family. Unfortunately, it was a complete waste of time and money.

The tour begins by driving west from Heavenly Village to the Keys. Our guide pointed out the (non)historical monuments and fine dining establishments of McDonald's and IHOP. Once at the Keys we slow launched the Duck, trolled out of the marina and then spent about 15 minutes on the lake. Our tour was further enhanced with a discussion of non native seaweed and a stop after exiting the lake to remove this foreign element. Back to Heavenly Village and pointing out a few more eating establishments. No history. No fun. No way to get my hour and a half back.

This was by far, the worst "city" tour I have ever taken. My recommendation would be to skip this tour and pay a couple of bucks more and take either a sailing tour or the paddle wheel boat tour to Emerald Bay.

“A good tour but needed more pizazz”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2012

We have been on several Duck Tours in other cities. The Tahoe one was fun for our group - who ranged in age from 10 to 50 but it lacked some of the flair of the other Duck Tours that we have been on in the past. There was less time spent on showing us around Tahoe and fewer of the goofy jokes and music that we had previously experienced. BUT - the tine on the water was nice - the lake is impressive indeed! All around a good expereince.

“Fun for my family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

A good tour for the family. Initially thought of the big boat tours but realized 2 hours may get boring for young kids. So opted for this tour instead. Something different.

Captain Brian is pretty good. Our kids really enjoyed the trip. The cool part is when it goes from land to water. View from lake to shore was beautiful too. And being a smaller boat we are closer to the water surface too. Get to see how clear the water and how the color changes. Sometimes it seemed like we are are the attractions instead as we pass by tourists. My kids definitely will remember this ride.

Overall we enjoyed it. They are very friendly too. I emailed them before my trip and they got back to me fast. It is a little pricey, but then again so is everything in Tahoe. It is cheaper then the gondola ride though.

“A nice quick overview of the lake/area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2012

We took to Duck tour and had a nice quick overview of the area. Our guide was informative and it was really nice to go out on the lake. The only downside is the spacing between seats is made for a small child

“Fun!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2012

We had a great time on the Duck boat. Our tour guide Jen seemed knowledgeable and it was really cool to travel from land to water. Don't expect to go out to far in the water but since everything in Lake Tahoe is pricey this wasn't too bad. Thet did charge for my infant which is out of the ordinary but it was fun.
