“A GREAT LEARNING EXPERIENCE”

The entire trek was beautiful. The smell of the foliage is incomparable. See it. Do it. Experience it.

“Do not miss this!”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

What a pleasant surprise. You will not be disappointed and this is a must see if you are in the area. We went on a day when the houses were all closed, but still enjoyed it. Check to see when houses are open. The area is extremely well kept with beautiful gardens. Everything was in bloom when we were there. You can sit on a bench and enjoy not a single sound, but maybe a slight wave from the Lake. Will go back again when in the area.

“Wonderful”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

Many buildings now set up with interesting displays and information about who would have used it. A lot to see even if you don't do the house tour.

“Fascinating slice of history!”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

I came on a Monday and at first was disappointed that the houses were all closed. But they've done a wonderful job of arranging screened or glass windows that you can look through, many with tableaux of lif at that time, with informative signs and sometimes sound effects. Fascinating to see the lifestyles of the wealthy and their servants... actually there was a substantial middle class at that time but not at these places!

Also a good place to picnic, and you can hike down the beach and swim like the locals do.

“A gem of a place!”
Reviewed June 10, 2013 via mobile

Trying to find a place to balance a family activity with people of varying ages and activity levels, this was a great find!
Imaging the folks that lived and worked here was fun as was occupying the chairs on one of the porches in the shade and looking out on the lake. Definitely will return on another visit to the area!
