What a view can't wait to go back. Bring Warming clothing in the Fall and Wintertime and go for Hike.

I love to hike. The castle is worth seeing when you visit Lake Tahoe. It is a simple one mile hike down hill to the castle. The walk back up was so pretty especially the small waterfalls along the way.

This site was on our 'to-do' list while we were vacationing in Tahoe. We arrived mid-morning which gave us parking challenges. All the lots were packed by 10:30 am. Once we got to the foot trail, we started our descent. It was a long winding trail down. We reached our destination and there purchased tickets to tour the Vikingsholm. It was a short and informative. After the guided tour, we were encouraged to look around the mansion and its grounds. We then spent the rest of the afternoon at a picnic table and beach enjoying the lovely day in Emerald Bay. We brought swimsuits and packed a lunch. Then came the true test of my endurance as we all trekked back up the trail. Yes, it was hard but doable. I took my time and enjoyed the scenery. Also there are plenty of places to take breathers.

To get to the tour of the house, you must find parking in the lot next to the road and pay $10 for a pass from the State. The path down to the water and tour is about one mile each way but is very easy if you walk just a bit. The tour of the house is $10 each but I found very is very educational and our guide was great. Take time to tour the small museum and gift shop--for free!

There is parking that is free that is just down the road if you don't want to pay the $10 for parking at the top of the hill. The hike down isn't bad, but going up is a different story. This is if you're not use to the altitude. But it's a nice little hike with a few small water falls to enjoy as you go up & down it. Then when you get to the bottom of the hill there's a restroom, gift shop where you buy tickets to tour the Vikingsholm Mansion & gorgeous views all around. The tour to this beautiful home is only $10 & very interesting, such detail & craftsmanship in building the house. There's a pretty hike that is behind the gift shop up to a bridge. Then there's another hike that is off the side of the mansion that is also beautiful & goes along the lake with amazing views. This hike will take you to one of the points that makes the horseshoe to the Emerald Bay. Along this trail are several camping areas that have restrooms.
