The pub serves great food and is well worth the wait. But I have read with interest the replies from Felicity to other reviewers. The toilet and shower facilities are appalling! 3 female toilets - not enough to serve 3 fields - loo roll - I always take my own but cleaning them once a day is not enough. The 2 showers were in a disgusting state - broken shower tray and flooding all over the floor - you might be saving your pennies for a new shower and toilet block for next season but what about the rest of this season- there's still a lot of it left and you'll have plenty more disappointed customers.
This was a real shame because with decent facilities this campsite could be great.

Had a great time, good camp site, friendly staff, great food and beer in the pub and a really warm and friendly welcome. All hands to help from bar staff, bikers and pub customers when we got the motorhome stuck in the mud !! A really good stay Thursday through to Sunday - nobody hassling happy campers to leave their pitch, a real pleasure to stay at the Bat & Ball - Felice and Ben who ran the pub and camp site made this a really great time for all our party.

On positive note, the staff are welcoming and friendly but we booked for 2 nights and ended up staying for one. There was a bike rally on as well as a big party of 40 and so perhaps this wasn't the best time to go. The main drawback was the facilities - there was no toilet roll in the ladies toilets and the floor was wet and muddy. You didn't want to clean your teeth let alone take a shower. Due to the large number of people camping, the bins were overflowing which was not pleasant. The food in the pub took a while to come and having young children with us, it didn't bode well. The staff were very apologetic but nevertheless it was clear that they simply couldn't handle the large numbers. Breakfast was a similar story - we arrived early with only 3 orders in front of us but it took a long time for the breakfasts to arrive. All in all, this place is ok for a one night stay and perhaps our experience would have been better if we had arrived at a different time as they cannot cater for large numbers. To stay for more than one night wouldn't be pleasant given the state of the facilities. What a shame as we were looking forward to it.

Bought 3 nights in The Shepherds huts via Groupon and very pleased with the experience.
Warm & cosy, romantic, super friendly staff including the landlord & lady, toilets & showers close to shepherds hut and very clean. Food really nice and reasonably priced. Wifi in the pub itself. Around the area we visited Bognor, Arundel Castle, Bignor Roman Villas & Thorpe Park. Definitely would do again but know due to popularity they are booking a long way ahead.

We stayed for 2 nights in the delightful shepherds hut, perfect romantic getaway, the huts are adorable with a mini fire place and comfy beds. The staff are fantastic and welcoming, led by the excellent Ben and Fliss. We hired bikes one day and went walking another, the surroundings make for a great weekend away. The food was great, highly recommend the pizzas and outrageously good chocolate brownie. Overall we had a fantastic time and would definitely come back.

We had a wonderful time staying in one of the two Shepherd's Huts on site having been lucky enough to grab a great Groupon deal.

We were greeted very warmly and quickly shown to our charming hut.

The huts are beautifully finished, cosy and warm. We loved the wood burner too (staff were more than happy to provide us with additional fire lighters).

Whilst a previous reviewer mentioned that there are no ensuite facilities, the huts are close the the toilets (not too close!) and this never proved a problem for us. Granted, the showers were a little dirty, and the toilets could have done with a little more attention (the toilets inside the pub were very well kept). Small things, however, easily resolved and definitely shouldn't put anyone off.

The food was wonderful and the pub had a lovely atmosphere. We both shared nachos to start and each had a pizza for a main. The pizzas are particularly lovely, very well made with a thin crust and high-quality, unusual toppings. Service was prompt and exceptionally friendly at all times and staff were more than happy to box-up the unfinished pizza for us.

I had a wonderful birthday weekend and cannot recommend The Bat and Ball highly enough. We were so impressed with the friendly staff, beautiful setting and cosy accommodation. A perfect weekend, thank you so much.
