“What a gem!”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

Came across Olympia by chance.
Not the most eye-catching vista but intrigued by the fact that it was packed at 6pm!
Mostly filed with locals which is another good sign.
Made to feel very welcome by team.
Food prepared in front of you with the grill flames lighting up the restaurant.
All courses delicious.
Queues soon developed with intriguing method of chalking up your name on board while waiting!

“Intoxicating”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

A feast for the senses. It gets rather busy at times but this only adds to the atmosphere, I feel.

Great coffee. An appealing menu. Superb pastries. I associate chocolate croissants with Olympia and have for as long as I can remember.

The service is personal and friendly.

“Quirky, bohemian, slightly 'odd' - EXPERIENCE IT !”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

First impressions normally count.....but at the Olympia they fall seriously short and don't at all paint the right picture !!! It appears somewhat chaotic and you quickly accept that from a health and safety point of you, 'when in Rome......'. Not that there is anything dirty or unhygienic....... just as I say, a bit chaotic ! The Waiters are soon at your table and no matter how long your list of requests is, they take a mental note of everything and duly go off to order. They return with everything 'present & correct' ; freshly squeezed juices, smoothies, excellent coffee........fantastic scrambled egg, chipolata sausages, tomatoes etc etc, homemade bread - all the food is fresh and deliciously cooked. Enjoy reading a book, chatting with friends or just soaking in the 'meeting point' atmosphere of the locals......

“Overrated and dirty”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Olympia cafe is one of the landmarks along the main road of Kalk Bay. It's an institution known for its character and excellent food, especially its bread. Its character is supposed to derive from its 'no frills' decor - which is non-existent and its self deprecating humour about this. The chalk board for example, notes that the staff are dressed by 'Lost Property', The restaurant operates from early morning until late at night, when it is lit by stark white neon from the ceiling. In true Olympia style, many of the chairs are way too short for the tables and the place is always buzzing. Now that's all very well, but having been there many times, it has begun to irk me that the management saves a lot on cleaning staff and materials. The cake cabinets are smudgy, the floor is dirty and the windowsills, or shelves are dusty The service is slow and on the day we were there, the carrot cake must have been about five days old. When one looks at the newer establishments along this strip and sees how much money and effort has been expended to make them appealing, one can't help wondering how long it will be before Olympia will have before it has to jack itself up considerably to compete.

“Great food in a unique setting”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

Had visited Olympia for dinner a few years ago and wasn't overly impressed despite if being highly recommended. Decided to give it a another try this time. Food was excellent. Both pasta dishes were delicious and the mussels were spectacular compared to the ones we get at home. BYO as well.

Can't reserve a table so need to show up early on busy nights. The cafe itself is nothing fancy - in fact it looks like it could do with a good clean and the furniture is all mismatched but that is all part of the charm
