The team at Lumba Lumba are very efficient with email communications and offering information to assist your journey to the beautiful Pulau Weh. This is a dedicated dive resort so if your purpose here is to get wet then you're at the right place. Spent four nights here which was nowhere near long enough to sample all the dive sites on offer. Organisation and dive preparation was excellent, you can even request specific dive sites as I did. The only down side is that it can get very busy and feel a little crowded when there are many divers and large groups. That said, the dive team is very good at grouping divers with those of similar experience and ability so you get the most out of your underwater excursions.

Zero complaints about the family room which was great, a lot of space, nice balcony and a very natural and eco-friendly feel. Gapang itself has very little else to do but chill out or dive, there are only three restaurants and they all have the same menu! The kids had fun snorkelling on the house reef which is like a little aquarium right outside the resort.

After reading the favourable reviews, but unable to contact the resort through TA I sent an e-mail which was promptly answered with all my questions addressed. Their effective communication was kept up even after the deposit was payed. We flew into Banda Aceh from KL, taxi to ferry terminal, 1hour ferry ride, 20 min taxi ride from ferry to resort. We stayed in a bungalow 30euro/night which had the options to open up the balcony to join two rooms together if travelling in a larger group. Bungalow was clean and in good nick (but in keeping with their environmental policy sheets and towels are not cleaned on a daily basis unless you ask for it). Their dive instructors and course were great, and equipment seemed new. And again any questions you have can be asked by e-mail beforehand. This is the only 'resort' on a very scenic white beach, with large shady overhanging trees so you have it all to yourself. It has a few resturants along the beach strip but non of them sell alchol. This is a place to dive, snorkel and rest.

My partner and I have just returned from an amazing stay at Lumba Lumba. From our first contact with them, it was clear this was a very well run place. The e-mails we received were comprehensive, giving detailed travel information that was really useful. The accommodation was lovely, we stayed in one of the living room cottages, which was very nicely decorated. The balcony with a hammock was great for relaxing in between dives. The staff were so friendly, from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by them and made to feel totally at home. All the staff, especially Sonya, JP and Rose, were very professional and friendly, a great credit to the dive centre. There is a solid environmental policy regarding plastic bottles and hotel cleaning which is a credit to the centre.

The area itself is quiet - this is not a mad party spot. You can get beer and soft drinks at the dive centre but if you want something else, bring it to the island with you. If you want to dive and chill out, this is the perfect spot with the great people. As for the diving - it has some of the best dive spots we've dived in. The house reef is great, and the boat trips are all short.

We will definitely be returning as soon as we can. We can highly recommended Lumba Lumba.

I stayed for 2 weeks in one of the "Lumba Lumba Living" bungalows for 30 euro/night, which is a lot for the region but worth it in my opinion. Clean, well-maintained, built from first class materials, lots of space, warm shower, comfortable bed and great balcony with hammock. The local eco system is well-balanced and such that there are no big problems with mosquitos or ants in these bungalows. The dive operation is extremely well-managed and caters to a wide variety of divers: from the beginning OW trainees to very experienced levels. Many divers decide to do their dive master training here.

I have logged quite a bit of recreational diving in South-East Asia, and apart from Palau this is the first place I have returned to. The first time was early 2009.

Yes, bleaching has affected the Rubiah Sea Garden corals and the house reef a lot. It is good to see the See Garden slowly recovering, but it will take a while to restore to its prior glory. If you don't know, just enjoy fooling around with the octopuses and try to spot the dark green frogfish hiding in the dark green elk corals. The Northern part and the deeper parts are still very interesting. The house reef has changed but is as intriguing as it was before. Diving here is the reason I eventually added prescription glasses to my mask, and it hasn't disappointed me the slightest bit.

All the other sites were completely unaffected and as spectacular as before: Canyon, Tokong, Arus Balee, all brilliant diving and exiting, having dived at each of them about 10 times now... A great addition is the "Limbo Gapang" site just two minutes from the dive shop.

On the last day I rented a motor bike and drove around the island. The waterfall is a adventurous trip through the jungle and well worth it. Make sure to have good foot wear because you have to wade across the river a couple of times and in the end climb over some rocks.

I arrived with the KL - Banda Aceh flight, after which you can take the fast ferry on the same day. You might need to spend a few hours in the harbour. There are always some friendly locals around to keep company. On the way back I had only an hour or so to (re)visit some of the tsunami sites. I would recommend first time travellers to stay in Banda Aceh at least one night and day to get a tour and see the sites and get some idea of the 2004 disaster.

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra for the "Lumba Lumba Living" bungalows.

We stayed for 5 nights in one of the budget rooms with toilet attached. The room was very comfortable even though basic, clean, good bed and pillow, clean toilet with clean towels. There were lots of insects and mosquitoes especially in the evening but that is expected and the hotel provides us with mosquito coils and repellents. The budget rooms is slightly further from the dive center compared to the other rooms but generally it was a very comfortable and satisfying stay, especially for the price we paid. WiFi is strongest in the dive center. The room that we stayed in did not have very good signal for WiFi but it was okay if we were in the balcony. You can ask the housekeeping to change your towels and linens whenever you want them to. They are just below the budget rooms and are always happy to help. There was no hot shower but it was okay to take a cold shower with the hot weather.

Dives were well organized. The local DMs were young but good and quite experienced, we had a DM to ourselves (2 dives) for almost all of our dives. Boatmans were also very helpful. We also did a dive to Sophie Rickmers Wreck and it was just stunning! Proper safety precautions were taken and lots of prior briefing to make sure we knew what we were doing for the deep dive.

There were a few restaurants nearby but we couldn't eat outside because it was the fasting Ramadan month. We had our breakfasts and lunch in the dive center. Bread and eggs were provided all day long due to the fasting month. You could buy and take away from the restaurants that were open too. All the restaurants opened during dinner and we particularly like Limbo restaurant as they were quite friendly. Lumba Lumba also mentioned that they are looking to put up their own restaurant in the near future.

We had a wonderful time with Lumba Lumba and will definitely be going back with a bigger group in the future.

We stayed at lumba lumba for 10 days and loved it!

The diving is spectacular in everyway and never disappointed us! We stayed in a bungalow for one night then moved to the long house for the rest! Both are spacious, well designed and spotlessly clean! The dive centre itself is fantastic and equipped with everything!

Gapang beach is quiet and just has a few local restaurants which do great food, barracudas was a particular favourite of ours, she never disappointed! There is not much to do but dive and hang out in the dive centre or relax in a hamock on the beach which is fine as it keeps the beach idyically peaceful.

We though all the staff were fantastic and really made our stay worth while, housekeeping are attentive and really friendly and the dive masters are great fun and really know there stuff and didn't miss a thing in the water!

We will definitely be back and most likely do our dive master training as it is by far the best dive centre we have visited and also has some of the best sites, you would never get bored!

A special thanks to Robby, Joel, jim, Antonio, rose, merman and all the dive guides, you were fantastic company!

I had 3 nights at Lumba Lumba diving centre and had a brilliant time. The bungalows are large, clean, comfortable, have hot showers and WiFi, even offering a laundry service! It doesn't have a restaurant but does sell food and drinks if you want a snack however within 30 seconds you have a choice of local restaurants selling both Indonesian and European food. There is even a local delivery service - Mama pops round with her blue box of donuts and pasties and a motorbike selling fresh fruit and vegetables turns up daily.
The diving itself is excellent. I have never seen such a high concentration of species in one place, ranging from the big rays and sharks to the small shrimps and nudibranchs. There are often currents when diving but this just adds to the fun.
Great place to stay with great people both running the dive centre and leading the dives. Overall a brilliant experience and one that I would do again.
