Description: This traditional village pub dates back to the 15th century with our snug area dating back to 1107! Legend has it, that the original building was used as accommodation for the monks that built Iden church. We have two delightful letting rooms, separate to the pub. Rooms offer king sized beds and en-suite facilities. Other features include original oak beams within the letting rooms and the main inn. Make yourselves tea and coffee in vintage china in the morning in bed whilst watching television with freeview prior to popping over the the restaurant for a sumptuous hearty breakfast using fresh local produce - continental and full English are offered. We are proud of our home cooked food and offer far more than your usual pub grub. Our food is locally sourced where possible and reflects seasonal changes. We are a perfect dining space for a romantic dinner for two, a family celebration or a private party.

We recently stayed for a short break locally - we ate out for two nights - both times at the Bell. The food was so good the first time we had to come back. We both had the venison and it was absolutely wonderful as were all the other things we had!
It wasn't just the food though, the unobtrusive service, friendly people and village atmosphere all went towards a lovely evening - thank you.

18 of us were booked in at the Bell for lunch after we had done a 3 mile circular walk in the nearby orchards.

The food was served fairly quickly considering the number of us and for the most part was good but expensive - a main course was £16! One of our party ordered duck which was tough and could not be eaten. This lady didnt want to make a fuss but I complained on her behalf. They apologised but nothing was done until I suggested that a full refund would be in order. This they did with further apologies. The rest of us enjoyed our food but some of the prices were well above average.

We were quite disappointed when reading this as it was only posted the day after the organiser of the walking group sent us a glowing email about how lovely the food was and that they will return to us in the future. A lot of planning is done prior to groups arriving to us and our menus were emailed prior to your arrival to ensure that they suited your party. We are a flexible bunch and we are always happy to tailor a menu to a budget if necessary. We take pride in our dishes and use fresh, local and seasonal produce when possible and although this may be slightly more costly in some dishes, we ensure to suit all budgets by providing a variety on our menu. The duck dish that your friend had was the second most expensive dish on our menu (the steak being the highest priced at £19 - a fair price for the area and for a great steak) - we have never had a dish sent back to our kitchen and this disappointed our chefs immensely but the meal was refunded in full as per the customers request without a quibble. The majority of your walking party ordered typically lunch dishes such as ham, egg and chips or baguettes from our lunch menu however we like to entice people to enjoy our full menu which is also available, and we do apologise that on this instance your friend did not enjoy her dish.
We do hope to see you at The Bell Inn in the future and we always strive to ensure that all our guests leave happy and with a willing to return.

We were staying the area (Peasmarsh) for a short break and came across The Bell via a recommendation in the visitors book of our rented cottage, a simple note of "dog friendly, good food" was enough to tempt us as the local pub to our cottage had not impressed.
Arriving mid evening on a stormy Tuesday evening, we were immediately made welcome by the Landlord who got us seated and comfy, explained that Tuesdays were 'pie night', so an offer on their pie of the week, and told us the specials. I opted for the Lamb pie, my wife the fish with home made pea tortellini and shared a goats cheese salad to start. The goats cheese salad was really well put together, lovely cheese, crisp leaves and caramelised walnuts and queen green olives, every mouthful a delight. My lamb pie was stupendously good, perfect with the simple and well cooked vegetables, with a generous gravy boat and the best pint of Harvey's I have ever been served . My wife's sea bass was perfectly cooked, dressed in a silky, fishy jus with lovely sweet pea tortellini. We shared the apple and toasted walnut crumble , which was served with a lovely home made custard, the landlady even brought us out a little drop of custard for our dog !

All in all a great, welcoming, well run pub, that happens to serve excellent, seasonal food. We visited again a few days later, enjoying our 2nd superb meal by the roaring fire, I can highly recommend the venison, and the hake was sublime.

Calling The Bell a 'gastropub' would do it a dis-service, its so much more than that.
