“A sad and tired hotel in need of a complete refurb!!”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

We had 3 'premium rooms' booked at this hotel for one night between Christmas and new Year and were looking forward to a nice family getaway with our children.
The building looks lovely from the outside but on entering it was a rather different story. The reception staff were polite and helpful but the walk along the long drab corridor didnt exactly fill us with confidence. We were met at the end of the corridor by a strong smell of chlorine from the pool and found the layout of stairs and corridors quite confusing. After we found our room on the upper floor, we were almost bowled over by the heat that hit us as we walked into the room. The bathroom was dirty and tired with cracked floor tiles and the room was grubby with a fair dose of cobwebs and grey looking net curtains.
Both the other rooms were of a similar standard and given the price we'd paid (£180 per room DB&B) we decided they were definitely not up to standard.
After telling the head receptionist this, she agreed to waive the cost and we managed to land an altogether better deal ( Jeakes House is the best B&B we have ever stayed in) for a lower price.
A disappointing experience guided by the many decent reviews (?????) we'd read on Tripadvisor!

So sad that this restaurant has been badly let down. It has a wonderful, light and spacious dining room. Our meal was good but the service was so poor it was laughable. I had to get up twice from our table to ask for things and after our main course we were not offered the menu or desserts or even tea and coffee. We were not even offered a bill and we had to leave via the hotel reception and ask for the bill eventually. Sorry but they are in a SERVICE industry.

My wife and I stayed overnight with a Groupon Voucher and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Garden Room was very comfortable and very warm. I switched the radiator on when we arrived and it quickly warmed up. The room was clean and very attractive. We had no complaints with room or service. The rose and chocolates were a nice touch. When we first arrived the bar area was cold , but they soon lit a fire and it quickly warmed up. (It was one of the coldest days outside for some time!) My wife used the beauty room for a back massage and found the staff friendly and efficient. I used the gym which was fine although one of the two treadmills was temporarily out of order. Dinner was excellent and reasonably priced. Breakfast was hot and plentiful and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. We had read bad reviews about this Hotel , but to be honest didn't feel it warranted them , albeit it could do with some refurbishment , but didn't feel it was as shabby as some reviewers seem to feel. We would certainly go again .

Room Tip: We only went into a Garden Room , which we would have no problem in recommending.

Luckily only paid £79 for a Groupon voucher, the listed price for the room was £175, and I would have left rather than pay that! Firstly the staff are generally excellent (apart from the one on reception who walked us half way to the room then gave up!) so the restaurant staff and bar were very good, can't name any of them as there were no name badges in sight. The room was tired, with battered stained and chipped pine furniture. Couldn't make out why the TV cabinet was in such a funny position so moved it to see TV and lo and behold moth pupae all over the carpet which had been eaten to death (showed the pictures to reception on way out) then looked around the room to see all corners of the carpet totally eaten, dust behind the bed, dust on the loo roll holder, towel rail hanging off, soap dish stained with white stuff and hanging off, black grouting, shower head fixed with odd brass nut, radiator in room cold (and judging from the number of electrical ones around the dining room too none working in there either). The corridors are bleak, old worn carpet, skirting board held together with Sellotape in reception, Laura Ashley 1980's curtains, dirty window sills in the dining room, dust on banisters on the way to dreaded room 60. Poly cotton sheets and duvet cover, pillows made of solid foam, hmmm. On a positive, the food was good, had a choice of the main menu of bar menu for dinner, and the cooked breakfast was lovely. if the management read this or at all interested, do something please, you have great staff, a lovely building and lots of potential!!

My friend and I have been going to Flackley Ash for the last 5 years or so and always have a wonderful time. We treat ourselves to one of the twin garden rooms which are very nice. We book our beauty treatments in advance to ensure we get what we want. The staff in the beauty rooms are extremely good and so friendly.
We have just got back today after this years treat! Unfortunately one of the beauty therapists had an accident on the Saturday and was taken to hospital and was unable to come into work, which meant we could only have one of our two treatments. The General Manager of the hotel did everything she could to try and re-arrange so we wouldn't miss out, which we really appreciated. Also the therapist who did our changed treatments was fantastic, she didn't stop smiling despite having to cope on her own... hats off to her, great job!
We also had a small issue with our lunch on the Saturday, which we brought to the General Managers attention. She dealt with it immediately and was so friendly, she also went that extra mile to make sure the rest of our stay was as enjoyable as possible which we really appreciated.... she was great.
It confirmed to us why we make the hour and a half drive each year rather than trying to find somewhere closer to home that offers the same level of service and value for money.
Well done everyone at Flackley Ash, and thank you!

Spent a night here with a Groupon voucher. On arrival the staff were welcoming and friendly - found this to be the case throughout our stay.
Our room was pleasant and comfortable and had all we needed, although perhaps a luck of paint would be in order. The rose and chocolates were a nice touch. There was also free wifi in the room - a bonus as I'd expected to sit in public areas to get signal.
We ate out as the restaurant seemed quite pricey. There are many pubs nearby serving good food.
Breakfast was included in the room rate and was plentiful and varied: Good range of cereal, fruit, yogurt, toast & pastries. We both opted for a full English but could have had kippers, haddock, eggs benedict etc - spoilt for choice!
There had been a burst pipe in the men's changing room when we visited so the leisure facilities weren't quite up to scratch. The pool was lovely and we enjoyed the jacuzzi and steam room - but the changing room arrangement was odd (changing room and lockers in one place, toilet and showers elsewhere). Some of the gym equipmont was out of order which might have been an issue on a busier evening.
All in all I'd recommend - but only if you can get a reduced rate ;-)

My partner and I stayed at the Flackley Ash hotel last night and were VERY disappointed! Luckily we bought a Groupon voucher and only paid £85 but had we paid the £175 they were asking for a "superior" room, I would have been asking for some money back. The hotel smells musty on arrival, finish is tatty and really dated throughout. Our room again smelt quite unpleasant and was very hot. Generally though the bedding and bed was nice and of good quality. We had to have the curtains drawn however from the moment we arrived as our room was completely overlooked by the restaurant, not good when you are spending so much money! I think the tariffs should really be revised or the quality of rooms dramatically improved for that price. I would also like to say, this is not a criticism of the staff or service, both of which were exceptional.
