“Just went there for Sunday lunch”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

Went there for the carvery last Sunday.
There was a great choice of meats and vegetables and all the food was cooked
very nicely.
Unlike some carveries, there was adequate amount of meat and you could go back
for more, so you didn't feel like you had to pile the food on in one pass.
It was surrounded by lovely countryside, so would make a good place to head for after a walk Sunday morning. The staff were very friendly and I would say it was quite good value for money.

Some of the reviews posted are so unfair! Yes, the hotel could do with a lick of paint but waking up to the sound of sheep bleating and the birds singing far outweighs the need for updated decor. The fact it was so homely made it even more pleasurable. There was a real fire and comfortable sofas where you could relax with a drink or two.

The staff were fantastic. Maggie (the owner), Chris and Eileen - thank you for your hospitality. A special mention for the lovely Abi who has to be the friendliest person I have met in a long time.

The food was outstanding and the fact we could take the dog was an absolute bonus. The water was hot and plentiful with a great shower and there were clean towels every day. The hotel has great walks around it and the town has some nice pubs and cafes.

I will be going back to this hotel and if great food and great staff are on your list of must have criteria then you need to give this place a try.

We have just had a 2 night KGB deal and thought it was excellent value. As stated in other reviews the hotel is quite shabby and outside could do with a good clean-up to clear cigarette stubs and litter, but we felt very comfortable here and the staff are great. Our room was clean and was serviced daily- fresh towels and hospitality tray topped up. The food was delicious and we did not mind the wait as everything was freshly made-unusual these days- and there was plenty of it. We are looking forward to a return visit

We stayed for about 15minutes! Scruffy, dirty, smelly. Wires hanging from the hall ceiling. Dog running round. Looked at the bedroom allocated to us and then felt it was time to leave. The thought of eating here turned our stomachs. Should not be advertised as a hotel with any star rating! The lady was friendly but it takes more than friendliness to run a hotel. Wish we had read reviews before booking. Currently in the process of trying to get our money back. Completely ruined the end of our tour of the country. Seriously needs to be looked at by environmental agency.

Room Tip: Do not go here!!!

Lovely views, cosy and comfortable. Amazing food - loads of it! Staff very helpful and friendly, with the wonderful Maggie appearing to do just about everything. Although it is rather dated, it is clean, and full of character. We really enjoyed our stay, and it was fantastic value on a kgb deal.

Loved our stay, Maggie is unique, the staff very helpful and friendly. The food is great although it comes in very, very large amounts. And yes it could maybe do with a bit of TLC but as far as we are concerned a clean bed and bathroom are the main thing. A few cobwebs in a 600 year old building what else do you expect. We loved it and will be back. Fantastic value for money. Well done Maggie.

Staff were most helpfull and food very good, food was well cooked and there was plenty of it,no need to eat out after haveing the full breakfast, evening meal was very good, starter, main and pud all home made. The hotel could do with a little TLC a lick of paint and some new bedding, but on the whole it was good value and homely, a lovely fire and coszy chairs.
