“Nice lunch spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2014

This place is near Hemingway's house in Cuba. A real delight, the food was good and well prepared the service was excellent. I may never make it back here but do try it out. Easy to find in the town

“good food, nice atmosphere”

We were a group of 18. The food was tasty, generous, and served quickly. The service was attentive and friendly. It was a very comfortable, open restaurant. I'd eat there again.

“One of the best meals that we had all week”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2014

This lunch was included in our tour and everyone enjoyed it. The food was excellent and in addition to the usual rice, beans, and cabbage, we had ropa vieja, potatoes, three very tasty salsas, and a beautiful plate of fruit for dessert.

The service was fast and very friendly. It was an open-air restaurant but they did have fans. They also made a great mojito.

“Delicioso!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2014

As part of a tour en route to Hemingway's house, we stopped and had lunch at Cafe Ajiaco. The staff was friendly, welcoming and capable. The atmosphere was very nice (except we Americans are not accustomed to cigar smoke wafting over from another table during the meal -- another table of Americans) - open air and shady, with a wall dedicated to the signatures and graffiti of visitors from far and wide.

The drinks were well made and the food was delicious. We were served "family style" with big platters to pass around and share - tasty croquettes and fresh bread with dips as appetizers, and generous portions of chicken, ropa vieja and marlin, as well as rice and beans and some starchy veggie (taro? cassava?). On request they brought out a small plate of sweet+spiced plantains -- I wish there had been more of these and enough for the whole group. They should make the plantains part of the meal. The food was nicely seasoned and delicious. As usual for Cuba, the non root veggies were frozen, but that has to do with availability of produce. There was a nice dessert too, although I don't remember what it was.

Anyway, overall a very positive experience - the people behind Ajiaco clearly are proud of their paladar, and rightfully so.
