We stayed at Bayview Gardens Hotel in one of the Harbour Master Suites for 3 nights as part of our visit to Komodo National Park.

The room was modern, clean and spacious, with a fantastic balcony and spectacular views of the harbour. You are really able to enjoy the sunrise each morning when the hotel serve breakfast to your balcony.

Amazing infinity pool with towels provided for the loungers.

Very friendly and helpful staff who organised pick up and drop off to the airport.

Having spoken with numerous people in Labuan Bajo, we are so glad we decided to stay at Bayview Gardens Hotel. As long as you don’t mind a few steps this really is a fantastic hotel!!

Thanks to Graham and the team!

Got a last minute booking here. Contacted Graham Smith who was very helpful in making the booking. Transport from the airport was also arranged. We stayed at the harbourmaster suite, the room was very spacious and clean. The bathroom was very big, clean and had refilled shampoo and soap available (I’m all about refilling and reusing to reduce plastic consumption!!) we were given two bottles of water everyday but they were quite happy to refill our own bottles too. The view from the room was over the harbour. Sunset views from the room was amazing. The staff were very friendly, and met Graham with his adorable dogs who hitched a ride on his scooter. I have only good things to say about this place except the internet connection was poor. There are several internet connections to connect to however none of them had good signal into our room. We had to go outside to get it to work and even then it was not working very well. This didn’t make a huge difference to us though as most of our holiday was already planned and most restaurants in town had free internet to use if we needed. And it was also a good respite from social media to enjoy the views and outdoors. We tried their breakfast once, it wasn’t the best, the banana pancake I tried was a bit rubbery. Husband got one small slice of cold toast with a small portion of scrambled eggs - we were going on a diving tour so didn’t want a huge breakfast anyway but I can see it being a slight disappointment on any other day. All in all it was a great place to stay, comfortable and convenient!!

Although a seemingly lovely little spot on the hill - there was construction right out our door. Workers hammered and sanded away into the evening. When we emailed the owner, he said that the noise stopped immediately when we had complained, unfortunately that was not the case. The staff at the small restaurant by the pool did not speak English ... and they did not understand my beginner Bahasa Indonesia either. No food was available there other than a beer or soda during our stay. Most importantly, however, we were devastated to find out that money was taken from our room safe. Our vacation funds were stolen when we asked for the master key to open the safe after having trouble with the safe's code / door. Staff dragged their feet long enough in procuring the master key - it was Sunday, they said, and the office was closed - in order to remove money from the safe while we were out. We are thankful they decided to leave our passports. We were traveling with our kids and did not wish to make a huge issue out of it - but the owner of the hotel failed to handle the issue in a timely manner and basically vouched for his staff who said they did not do it. Very disheartening. We will never stay there again.

I am surprised at this guests complaint.....there has been some construction occurring, but it was no where near any rooms
The arrangement with the contractor is that they will stop work immediately if a guest complains about noise
The restaurant can serve food at any time....the guest must have spoken to trainee staff ...there is a bell to summon assistance from English speaking staff.
It was not possible for staff to access the room safe.... the guest was the only person who knew the access code.
The master key is kept in a locked safe in the managers locked office
Other than accuse the staff of theft, there was very little we could do to help the guest

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night before our island hopping trip.

The pros: lovely view, newly renovated room (room 5), cute pool with view, private terrace, spacious room, friendly staff.

The cons: trek upto rooms maybe hard for some people. Some smell from bathroom.

Nevertheless, the pros outweigh the cons, and want to try the harbour view suite next time we go to labuan bajo.

The positives - our harbour view room was comfortable and clean with good aircon, fans and a nice balcony. Comfortable beds but noise is a problem. The staff are friendly and helpful. Taxis are easily available to go to town but it is quite a long walk to the centre. There is a shortcut to town but it takes you away from the best part. You can leave bags at the hotel if you are going away for a day or two.
Not so positive - A steep walk up to our room. No phone to reception so make sure you collect wifi info and a hairdryer before trekking up. This hotel is not suitable if you have a mobility issue. Breakfast is ok but very basic. The restaurant claims to be open til 8pm but was closed when we arrived at 7pm. The delivered takeaway food was fairly ordinary. The restaurant has no menu. You can choose vegetarian, chicken or fish but other than that it is the Cook's choice. We chose to go elsewhere. The noise from two nearby competing mosques made sleep difficult for my partner. Fortunately I am deaf!
We stayed 3 nights then due to a volcanic eruption in Bali had 2 more nights in LBJ. We moved to the Bintang Flores Hotel. About the same price but much, much better. Laprima also looked good but was fully booked.
Other guests at the Bintang had also been at Bayview and had exactly the same opinion as us - so this is not just a gripe by difficult guests. A few changes and a reduction in price are necessary for this hotel to be competitive.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

The reviewer is correct...If you are not interested in a spectacular sea view with beautiful sunsets, and it is not important to be close to the town and port with restaurants and dive shops, there are some good hotels a few kilometers out of town at a similar price ...(a bit more expensive actually).
The main street is 7 minutes walk from our hotel
Wifi instructions are in every room
I am sorry we could not accommodate the reviewers request to extend their stay due to flight cancellations because of volcanic activity
