“A refreshing change”
Reviewed February 13, 2014

As a tight budgeted traveling couple, we normally would not choose air conditioned accommodation, but after a fantastic trip diving in Komodo, we decided to treat ourselves to a little bit of 'luxury'. We dropped in to Bayview gardens a couple of days before our trip, and were warmly welcomed and shown around by very enthusiastic staff. We were allowed to drop off our bags while we sailed around Komodo, and arrived back at Bayview to a wonderful greeting.

The room we chose (1) was the closest up the steps (we were tired!) and was beautifully set out with a private balcony area overlooking the bay (perfect sunset spot), drinking water and hot drinks available all day, and rooms cleaned thoroughly every day.

It's so nice to be greeted by name by staff in a small concern such as this from the first moment you set foot through the door - and we were particularly pleased with the very personal service - guests leave notes on a board by the reception area, and the staff respond to these - for example - breakfast delivery time and special needs (breakfast, of course, is brought to the balcony every morning with a cheerful smile, and so can then be enjoyed in perfect solitude).

All in all, good value for money, and sure to be on our list of pampering stops on our next trip in Flores. Keep up the good work guys!!

Room Tip: The higher you go, the better the view!

From the moment arrived we were treated like family. Hubert, the operations manager and his staff were fun, informative and so very helpful. Everything around the property was well kept and everyone was smiling. Our room was lovely, clean and with the best view in the City. Our beds were comfortable, our room quiet and the wifi signal strong. The food was excellent too, I strongly recommend the "surprise dinner". When I return, I will rush to stay here again. Just an exceptional experience from start to finish.

Beautiful scenery of Labuan Bajo's bay from veranda and room, especially at sunset. Room and bathroom was neat and clean. I was surprised also that there were reading lamps by the beds. This is important for me since I love to read before sleep. Another surprised was when I turned off the lamp at veranda at night I saw so many fireflies there. Fantastic!

Bayview Gardens is less than 10 minutes drive from the airport, located at the top of the hill and very convenient walking distance to the township. Do expect there will be quite an effort climbing uphill to the hotel from the shops located near the harbor. From the hotel itself to the room, do expect there will be steep climb uphill too. But for spectacular view, the climb is definitely worth it. Upon checked in, the staff helped us to carry our heaviest luggage up to the room. Do remember to tell the staff what time you want your breakfast to be served in your room.

Another thing that I must mention here is the honesty of the staff, both Frans & Sandro. The day that i am supposed to depart Labuan Bajo, our flight had been cancelled and we could only fly out the next day. So we stayed at the hotel near to airport arranged by hotel. Once i got into the hotel, i realised my dive computer, Suunto wasn't with me, I was absolutely panic as i just got the dive computer 1 week ago. I immediately called up Bayviews and the staff who picked up the phone said he had my Suunto, and unexpectedly, he said he would send it over to the hotel i stayed. So just after few hours wait, both the staff Frans and Sandro were in the bike and arrived the hotel with my Suunto! I felt such relieved after getting back my Suunto, and thanked them for keeping it safe. I am absolutely grateful & delighted for the honestly and kindness of the staff. Will I come back to stay in Bayview ? Oh 101 % !

Had a friendly correspondence with the Dutch owner. Little did we know.

Arrived here after walking from the harbour. The Indonesian guy who 'welcomed' us didnt make any efforts in helping my girlfriend with carrying any luggage up the steep hill to the room, or even talk in general. Felt more like an annoying intermezzo from his cell phone than guests.

The place was desolated. The only inhabitants we found were an ant colony, about 50 mosquitos in a very dirty bathroom, and some cockroaches in our room. And lets not forget the stray cats trying to get a piece of the below average meal we got served in our room because the restaurant was closed.

We managed to get something to drink from the guy at the reception as there was no drinks of any kind provided (even the water cooler in the room was empty), the only thing he had was beer.

Bed sheets were dirty, towels as well. Bathroom was either rusty, moldy or falling apart.

Beats me why this place is rated as one of the top places in Labuan Bajo. Maybe for the view. Because thats probably the only thing thats good about this Inn.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights and enjoyed our stay a lot. The view from the room terrace is fantastic, we had dinner twice at the hotel and both time the food was delicious. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They recommended a guy who organised our tour to Comodo and Rinca, and this trip was a highlight of our journey. I highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel probably offers the best view in Labuan Bajo. We had one of the less luxurious rooms, with just a bedroom and a small open living room. The guy of the staff on the day of our arrival wasn't very helpful, since he didn't help to carry any of our luggage. Since the hotel's situated in the hills there's nature and wild life all around, and the gekko's are literally everywhere, also in the bedroom, the shower etc. In the bathroom we also saw some cockroaches. But of course that's normal when you have an open living room without windows. It's really inviting them in. There's a constant Bemo (mini bus taxi's) traffic passing by the hotel, so transport to the centre is not a problem during daytime. Once it's getting dark bemo's stop driving and than you have a problem, since it's a serious climb up and totally dark. Luckily the evening view is so spectacular you don't need to go out and can watch the night fall till you fall asleep. There's a fine restaurant not too far from the Gardens serving excellent fish- and other dishes. The fresh juices are also delicious. And the hotel offers a perfect breakfast, served in your room. The thing is that we spent 3 weeks in Bali and found the mentality on the Island of Flores completely different: less kind, more aggressive, actually we were happy to get back to the main land (which isn't really correct, cause Bali also is an island..). Of course the trip to Rinca (to spot the Komodo dragons) and the snorkeling is great, but if you're not planning to go scuba diving etc two days on this island is enough, since Labuan Bajo itself really has nothing to offer. And than of course you can wonder if it's worth the money (the only comfortable way to get there is by plane). I'd say yes, cause it's the only occasion in your life to see Komodo dragons.
