Great family day trip from Melbourne! The kids loved it, and we had a delicious BBQ with the fresh fish we caught. The staff are great too. Thanks !! :)

“fishing experience”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

1.5 hour drive from Melbourne. It was a great experience. I always love the drive through maroondha reserve. From last year I was thinking to visit a fish farm. Yesterday we visited the boxton fish farm - no regret, really it was an amazing trip. Thank you for early reviews in trip advisor.

“Very impressed with staff and farm”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

We stopped into to visit while driving past on our travels through Victoria. Very nice guy let us in for half price even though we offered to pay full price. He said we helped to feed the fish and that was enough. We were impressed, it was only a few dollars each anyway.
First time I have been to a fish farm. We didn't fish as if we caught something, due to travelling it would be difficult to have cooked it. Tho I did notice as we left that they do offer to cook for you.
Various prices if you catch and what it costs.
There were several groups of parents with young children fishing for trout. Some very excited young boys who had each caught a small trout.
There were plenty of fish in the ponds, some very big. Each pond had fish of different size ranges in it. And that was Salmon and Trout.
We spent about 45 mins having a look around and feeding the fish. I'm glad we stopped and it was very interesting and well worth the experience. Would highly recommend stopping in if you are passing by.

“Guaranteed fresh fish”
Reviewed September 27, 2013 via mobile

It's great at the salmon & trout farm. Certainly not just for kids. We quickly caught 2 Atlantic salmon & 2 trout. Everything you need is provided & they gut them for you. The place was smaller than I expected but worth the trip. We plan to do this regularly.

“excellent melbourne day trip”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

we've just returned from a day trip to the buxton trout and salmon farm...and wow, no regrets! driving from a southeastern suburb, we took the maroondah highway (B360) which brought us through the yarra ranges national park. here you will drive through the Black Spur (overwhelmed by majestic mountain ash trees!) and before you know it, you're at the trout farm, where everything you need to fish is provided (rods - even for kids, bait, pail). there are different ponds in the open air (set in a pleasant garden setting, lots of ducks) for trout and salmon, with signs so that you know exactly what size of fish to expect. trout is priced at $14.90/kg, while salmon is $24/kg. plenty of picnic tables amongst the ponds. even BBQs are provided onsite. fish is cleaned and packed with no extra charge. ice bags can be purchased at $5 each. overall, good fun for the whole family!
