Discovery Parks - Gerroa
Reviewed January 5, 2013

We booked a 5 night stay in our caravan at Discovery Gerroa as part of a 2 week family road trip throughout NSW. When we arrived we were quite surprised as the powered caravan site we had pre booked and paid for was actually just a powered tent site. We don't mind not having a slab but there was no drainage for our grey water and the spaces were very small. We were worried about the others in tents as we didn't want water to leak near them. Also there are a lot of permanent vans here and the amenities block is placed near the permanent sites which means it's quite a hike from the caravan/ tent sites. The pool is also very small for quite a large park. Not what I expected from a Big 4.

Stayed in 2 bed Spa Cabin for a local wedding for 1 night (from what I understand we were quite lucky to get a 1 night stay around this time of the year)
Staff very friendly at check-in, park has a laid back feel - lots of kids and happy noises coming from the pool area (which is close to the front gate)
Spa cabin was nice, a little stuffy without air con. Main bedroom has overhead fan - air con unit is in kitchen / lounge and doesn't have great reach into bedrooms. Especially 2nd bedroom which is very tight with 2 sets on bunks. (Not a major concern as you don't spend much time in this room unless you are sleeping)
Spacious, quiet, clean with sufficient TV's etc on those rainy days. Easy walk to pool for kids and jumping pillow. Did not use shop or cafe.
Would happily stay again if the price was right - during peak season it can be very expensive, but then again, they sell out, so who am I to complain :-)
Easy walk under bridge to creek and eventually to beach (didn't use)

We have stayed in the waterfront Spa Cabin and it was perfectly located and very clean. We stayed there with 3.5 year old and 6 month old.The place had everything we needed. Nice playground, walking distance to the beach and great water view.Cabin itself was very comfortable and well maintained. The managers were very nice, frendly and and very helpfull. We had expected to arrive after the reception desk would be closed, so we had contacted them and they had provided us with a combination to a security box to get our key. It turns out we got there a little earlier than expected, so we didn’t have an issue with getting the key. We were supposed to stay in a holiday unit, but the desk attendant decided to upgrade us to a spa cabin. This instantly became the best place we stayed in. It was a big park and it was dark, so it was a bit difficult to find at first. The driveway was narrow, but it was a full-sized cabin complete with a living area, dining and kitchen area, bathroom, master bedroom, and extra bedroom. And the bathroom came with a spa tub. Simply wonderful.

Similar to a previous reviewer we also stayed here with our 5 month old baby. We got a good off-season winter deal through a last minute accommodation website which included a free bottle of wine on arrival, complementary daily newspaper and free unlimited dvd hire - which made it good value.

We stayed in a river-side 2 bedroom cabin which was extremely well appointed and modern - on the river with magnificent views, private entry way, comfortable, full kitchen including oven, deck, bbq, double-headed shower and - the clincher - a double spa bath in the master bedroom. The second bedroom fit the portacot and gave us a separate space for our baby.

Despite good weather all weekend, we stayed in for most of it, with our baby, and the cabin was very comfortable and relaxing, like a home away from home. Since it was mid-winter it was also very quiet and private.

Service from the staff was friendly, and particularly attentive when we raised an issue with the dvd remote control. The park grounds were well maintained.

The cleanliness could have been better as there were marks on the entry sliding door and dust on the dining table. The master bed was also on wheels which would benefit from castors or wheel-locks to stop it rolling round on the wooden floor boards. Minor maintenance of fixtures (e.g. loose toilet paper holder) could also be improved. The kitchen was well equipped, however, having an oven dish for the oven would have been helpful.

Despite these minor points of improvement, we had a great stay and would consider it first when staying in the area in the near future.

Room Tip: Cabins on the river are private and beautifully located.

We spent a wonderful Anniversary weekend at the Waterfront Spa Cabin, right on the river’s edge. Was fantastic to go back to the park, we had an onsite caravan there for many years, so it was a real trip down memory lane. Being early May the park was quiet, cool nights but beautiful sunny days. The cabin was very clean & comfortable with fully equipped kitchen and luxurious spa. Fantastic location, easy walking distance to the beach. Most of the park amenities have been modernised and a big new playground for kids.
Went to the Gerroa Fisherman’s Club for dinner & had good meal, fantastic location right on the hill overlooking Seven Mile Beach. Gerringong village is only 10 minutes away and good to browse at the shops, plenty of cafes & couple of restaurants. Boat Harbour near Gerringong has a wonderful park and Ocean Baths worth a look, also checkout the Whale Watching platform near Gerringong Cemetery for fantastic views.
Thanks to Margaret for providing a bottle of wine, chocolate & coffee vouchers from the café, made us feel really special.

Room Tip: Take Walking Shoes - plenty of great walks, especially along the beach

I went here with my wife and 5 month old baby for a couple of night getaway at short notice. We stayed in a Driftwood Spa cabin that as far as we could tell was exactly the same as the waterfront cabins except it was a few meters further back than they were. We had the surfing camp area directly behind our cabin but they were well behave and there was very little noice from them.

The cabin itself was fantastic with a large deck with electric BBQ, work top, sink and 6 seat outdoor table. Inside was open plan living with a fantastic kitchen with full size fridge, dining table for 6, lounge and flat screen TV. The first bedroom had 2 bunk beds and we were able to squeeze in the port-a-cot for our baby. The bathroom was well equipped with a large shower with normal shower head at one side and a three massaging head shower at the other there was also a seperate toilet. The master bedroom was large with a built in wardrobe and a queen size bed. The main feature of the bedroom was the incredibly large two person spa bath.

The only thing I could think of that would make it beter is to have more seating, ie another lounge, as the cabin can accommodate 6 but only has a 2 seater lounge.

The staff were fantastic and made check in and check out a breeze. We did leave something behind in the cabin which we realised once we were back home, after a phone call they started looking for it. After efforts by them, the item wasn't located as it probably went with the laundry off site.

The location is fantastic with a 5-10 minute easy walk to Seven Mile Beach and a 20 minute drive to Nowra.

There is also a pool and a games room as well as an onsite cafe and shop, non of which we used.

Room Tip: Any of the cabins would be fine.

Thank you so much for your kind words, the Driftwood cabin is in fact the same style of cabin as the Waterfront except it sleeps six whereas the Waterfront sleeps 4. I have reviewed the seating arrangements for the cabins and we are looking at some new furniture that will have a an extra sofa. Thank you again and apologies for not replying earlier.
