“Great family holiday for young kids”
Reviewed May 18, 2012

From the moment we arrived, settled into our room and had a wander around the resort (which took a while as its pretty big and spread out) we knew we'd made a great choice. Its not a purpose built package holiday resort but rather a hotel from the Gran Melia group which are generally of a high standard. Thompson have carved out a number of rooms for Sensatori guests and as a result the other guests were from all over Europe giving a more cosmopolitan feel. We had a standard room for the four of us (two girls 2 & 7) and it was v comfortable and well appointed with a good size bathroom.

The range and quality of restuarants were very good with some better than others but that was more down to taste and what suited my kids than quality. Breakfast was great in the main buffet restuarant and its the first time in two weeks on hols that none of us got board with what was offer. They like you to book in advance for dinner 24/48hrs beforehand and you soon get the knack of this and getting where you want when you want. If you've got young children that get you up earlish I suggest you wander down then to book at one of the machines to get a head of the curve. Our favourite for dinner was the Italian (Ocean Club - I think) which was excellent quality and service for an all inclusive holiday. The general standard of service from all the staff again was better than expected. They clearly have a policy of recruiting kid friendly staff which might sound obvious but not always the reality.

The kids club was great as were all the girls supervising. This sounds crazy but the club have sleep overs for kids so that the parents can get a night to themselves. Before arriving and getting a sense of the quality of supervision and feedback from other parents the whole idea left me cold. Anyway may daughter made friends with other kids who all had a sleep over (which included hot chocolate and marsh mellows, movies and story time) and they loved it, so did mum and dad! There were eveing shows (not cheesy), events and bouncy castles which ensured our kids were properly ready for bed at the appropriate time. The huge inflatables in the family pool for the kids twice a week were another winner!

This place set the bench mark for us as a family holiday it was a real wrench leaving as it was of a high quality in an informal, relaxed and safe environment with enough variety for two weeks. Granted (as per in other comments/reviews about the hotel) its not five star plus in the context of Mayfair and Park Lane hotels such as The Dorchester etc. But then that works for me as having stayed in such hotels where the service and quality might be up there, they lack the informality and casualness thats required to ensure you're kids have the best time. But this hotel is still of a good standard sufficient to ensure you've not sold yourself short, indeed far from it.

Would we go again? absolutely it was great! Do I think I might regret not trying somewhere else for a change. Possibly but I am more worried about ending up somewhere else that does not measure up!

Just returned from the Sensatori after our second visit. We do not usually go back to the same hotels for holidays but had to at this hotel, was even better second time around. All restaurants were of v high standards, the entertainments manager and the casts were all terrific for adults and families alike.rooms great, pool areas fantastic a very high standard throughout the hotel. The Sensatori guest relations team were the best we have ever encompassed and we have travelled to most parts of the world.cannot pick out one individual, but Nathalie,Stephen,Claire Colette and Mike were all extremely proffessional and friendly.would recommend a visit to this hotel to anyone, although local area is not very good for entertainment to hotel makes up for it.

Room Tip: high room floor 5 for a quiet room

I'm writing this review while sat here on holiday. Sad, I know, but if I don't do it now I will have no time once I'm home. I have never written one before but thought a few tips would really help other families. We have brought along a 7 year and 3 year old.
Firstly we didn't upgrade to all inclusive at the time of booking which was around another £200 each. When we got here we enquired about doing it and was told the 3 year old was free and the 7 year old 10 euros a day. We would be 30 euros each per day. Big difference from the £200 each.
You can also just upgrade for a few days instead of the whole week. We didn't bother as all wine is free with your meals anyway and we only had a couple of cocktails each night. 2 cocktails 18 euros. Another tip is to take drink bottles for the children and fill up at breakfast with apple/orange juice to take with them to kids club.
Kids club is 10 till 12, 1.30 till 2.30, 3 till 4 and 7.30 till 9.30. We gave our children a meal in the buffet restaurant and then put them in the kids club at 7.30 then we had our meal in peace. Bliss.
Kids clubs are amazing and our children were desperate to go each time. No need to prebook the week we are here.
No need to bring towels as pool towels are provided.
If you decline housekeeping you get 20 euros off your bill for every day you decline it. If you did it every other day on a two week holiday that's 140 euros toward some cocktails!
There are plenty of little shops close to hotel so don't worry if you forget anything like my husband forgot the kids suitcase. Rrrrrrrrrr
Anyway I hope this helps someone?
Only gripe I had that didn't bother the rest of the family was the areas that were sectioned off for exclusive guests. I was looking at their comfy loungers thinking in a tv bulls eye voice " this is what you could have won".

We stayed one week in early February and liked the place very much. Highlights were the modern, spacious rooms and the child-friendly staff. After reading the reviews, we were a bit worried about the quality of the food but we were pleasantly surprised. It is as good and varied as you can expect from a buffet-style restaurant. Sunbeds around the pools were somewhat scarce so it must be difficult to find one in high season. Overall, we were all but willing to come back until we were faced with a real service disaster. Upon leaving we had forgotten some of our little one's winter clothes and the hotel outright refused to send it to us. Needless to say that we would have gladly paid for it. What the hotel staff suggested was to arrange for a remote pick-up by a courier service, which is all well but for reasons beyond my understanding it is impossible to arrange for a remote pick-up of anything else but documents in the Canary Islands from continental Europe. We virtually begged the hotel to make an exception and send us our things but to no avail. The sad fact is that we had to wait until one of our friends travelled to Tenerife and picked up our staff at the Gran Melia three months later. This is outrageous for a hotel of this category!

We enjoyed a week here in February, cannot fault it, surprised at some reviews, room was superb, on top floor with lovely view, bed comfortable, food in all restaurants fantastic and given we were full board and not all inclusive were very impressed with quantity of wine offered at mealtimes. Pool was very cold but I (not hubby) braved it. Very good gym which we used every day to try limit damage from fantastic food, desserts and cakes consumed.one of the best holidays I have had and cannot wait to go back (which is unusual for me) we have just returned from 5 star in villamoura and it just didn't compare with this hotel, would thoroughly recommend it
