“Wonderful Honeymoon”
Reviewed December 2, 2011

We enjoyed our honeymoon here from 7 Nov 2011. The hotel is beautiful, food is excellent, service and facilities are brilliant. Only downfall was the catamaran trip - the trip doesn't match the Sensatori start rating, a bit of a con. Everything else amazing. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday head here as a couple - great for kids too. We didn;t have our son with us but will next time.

Room Tip: If you don't mind paying a little extra the deluxe room on a high floor with an ocean view was e...

We've just got back from a 10 night stay and to be honest, we were happy to leave. Whilst the hotel looks like something out of a film set, the staff and overall experience is lacking the 5 star rating.
We went all inclusive and I'd seriously suggest not doing this. Service at the pool bars is really lacking and we found it impossible to spend the £25pp charge for the service each day. in addition, only house wine is included on the all inclusive so the full board is more than adequate for wine/beer at meals. In addition we were really angry to discover that the hotel don't even provide you with bottled water in your room and this has to be ordered via the mini bar, at an extra charge. Service at breakfast was hit and miss and i'd say the hotel is actually too big or not staffed correctly to make it a pleasurable experience.
In terms of travelling with children, it was a bit of a nightmare for all those with buggies (and for those who need assistance) as the hotel have very few ramps and lifts and the resort is over 3/4 levels making it an olympic challenge to get around. In addition the whole hotel is not designed for little ones (built as a couples only resort they couldn't fill), kids really are an after thought in terms of the layout and design of the rooms (hard, nasty corners on just about every piece of furniture).
The kids pool (once found because not signposted) is really good for the babies and toddlers and the warmest on offer, the main pool is arctic cold.
We liked the kids shows and heard that the other acts were going down a hit. In addition, the other restaurants looked pretty amazing but again, children under 12 aren't welcome most nights and so you have to pick your nights well to get in.
All in all, whilst it was ok, for the money we paid for 10 nights, there are plenty of other good hotels/resorts where i'd have rather spent the money and time. I do feel Thomson/Sensatori need to work on their problems here to make it work and to eradicate the constant complaining they face (every day someone new was complaining at the desk).

Room Tip: Avoid room 2006, its too close to Pangea and smelt of damp. Rooms to the very right of the hotel ar...

very , very nice hotel; good value for money; many different nice places inside the hotel;
just few limitations:
1. kids bed - not comfortable, even for my two little kids (4 and 7)
2. check -in service - I think the hotel staff should me more flexible, when we reach hotel at 21:30, we were very very tired and hungry, they keep us about 15 minutes in order to explain all kind of entertainment activities , i told that i'm not interesting in all details right now, I'll come tomorrow and listen it in a good mood, but it didn't help; she didn't give us keys until she finished.
the hotel itself is very very good.

What an amazing holiday!! we just returned last night and due to the comments which I read before our holiday which caused be concern I felt compelled to write. The hotel staff are so friendly and helpful, food and drink excellent, swimming pools very clean, Spa was wonderful and bedrooms spacious and comfy,
We travelled with a 4 month old and had no issues at all, we used the sensory nursery and the staff were great, well qualified, very thorough and did lots of activities with our daughter.
I am planning to go back as soon as I can! This hotel caters for all ages families, large families and couples. There are lots of adult only areas eg pool and dining areas.

Room Tip: We had a garden room with a private garden & bali bed

Spent seven nights here - left the wind and rain of the Uk and was transported to a chill out zone - just what was needed for mid November.
On our evening arrival we were dazzled by the multitude of suspended crystals glittering with the reflection from the colourful dancing fountains - it was truly magical. We were given our room key cards with directions to our pre booked "side Sea View room" -which at the time seemed a very complicated route through a maze of corridors which felt like a task from a Harry Potter book - we had an incredible bedroom, exactly as described in the Thomson Brochure with lots of windows with a huge mirror which reflected the stunning scenery and banana plantations and the sea beyond

Room Tip: Request room near to lift on a High floor - views are better - the rooms on the lower floors are sha...

I will not waste anyones time repeating the excellent reviews already submitted apart from to say this hotel is almost to 'four-seasons' standards. However here are some tips to assist future travellers.

Thomson Sensatori package holidaymakers make up about 40 to 60% of occupants at this "Gran Melia"hotel so don't, like we did expect "Sensatori" to be over the door.

In UK we had option to upgrade from full board + to all inclusive (AI) for £25 per day. You also get this option in resort by paying €30 to the Gran Melia reception. You can change to AI at any stage during your holiday but if you change it must be for all the remainder of your stay. My advice - see how you go on full board+ and only if you are spending over €30 per person per day at the bars then upgrade.

Gran Melia charge for late check out is €40 for 4 hours (to 4pm) and €50 for 6 hours (to 6pm) so well worth it if you have a late flight home.

Fast wi-fi is free of charge in the main reception and central plaza but there is a fee (per 24 hours) of €12 for basic access and €24 for unlimited access (which you need for gaming/video streaming). The free access was of good quality and worked every time I needed it.

Room Tip: The gardens are beautiful and I don't think it is work the extra for a sea view room.

Not 5 stars but good 4. Minus points from
- balcony on 5th floor - could not see anything but sky if not standing
- extremely terrible extra-bed for kids
- we were on full board and glasses are not filled again without asking

Especially positive sides
- relaxed atmosphere
- family pool heated and not crowded
- cleanliness and design of hotel, beautiful and well maintained grounds
- variety of Pangea buffet (both lunch and dinner)

Room Tip: Avoid 5th floor
