When in Ilocos Norte, make sure to visit St. Augustine's Church in the heart of Paoay. It is such a picturesque church, Baroque style built by the Augustinians in the late 1400's. The church is well preserved. It actually brings a certain sense of serenity if not spirituality whenever I pass by it. Of course, visiting the church's interior is quite amazing. If one pays close attention to the details of the exterior, one notices the coral used to build the church--quite amazing! The garden is just as serene as the church and it's steeple!

This church was built by the Augustinian friars during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines. It was built by bricks, corals and lumbers which is still preserved to this day.
It's bell tower, which is separated from the church is also made of corals. This church is one of UNESCO's world heritage site. So don't miss dropping by at Paoay church when you visit Ilocos province.

St. Augustine's Church or more popularly known as Paoay Church is one of UNESCO heritage site in the Philippines with its unique baroque architecture. This Roman Catholic church is located in the small municipality of Paoay in the province of Ilocos Norte. The church is reinforced by huge buttresses comparable to the Angkor Wat of Cambodia. It was mainly built to protect the church from destruction in events of earthquakes, which is common in the region. One can also notice the bell tower which is separate from the main structure of the church by a few meters. The front yard is all green and surrounding areas were mostly old houses and some food stores offering their Ilocos specialties.
