We scraped in under the bar after the abortive Mrs Millers, and as what always seems to happen in these situations we wished that we'd just come here first.
Nice, clean (recently refurbished) country pub/restaurant with rooms with friendly bar/serving staff.
The lunch menu (note: only served until 1.45pm) is a subset of the main restaurant menu with the usual pub grub favourites, lasagne, fish n chips, ham/gammon and eggs etc. with the same starters. Nice cutlery, flatware and napkins. Starters of pate and fresh pea and mint soup were all served with crusty bread and cute little daisy pats of butter (so much nicer than those wretched foil packets which are usually rock hard).
From a great start things slipped a little bit, the beautiful looking battered cod was a tad overcooked, the frozen chips slightly undercooked.
I have a bee in my bonnet about coffee - usually of the watery variety - this was strong enough but bitter so a bit of a disappointment .... maybe OK for other people but not my taste. The little Black Swan branded chocolate square was nice though.
That all said if you're in the Center Parcs area the Black Swan is well worth a go, well priced, friendly and child friendly (if thats a consideration) and has a beer garden for nice days.
